摘要： A cup forming sidewall blank includes a piece of flexible sheet material having an upper edge, a lower edge, and a pair of opposite side edges with an area at or adjacent the lower edge of the sidewall blank being provided with relief formations which extend generally upwardly and perpendicularly relative to the lower edge. The relief formations preferably take the form of score lines, slits, notches or other suitable constructions which are generally spaced from one another and are of equal length relative to the sidewall blank lower edge.

摘要： A cup making machine has a bottom finishing station provided with a mandrel for holding a sidewall blank and a bottom blank such that a flap portion of the sidewall blank is folded around a lip of the bottom blank. The bottom finishing station has a seam clamp engageable with overlapped edges of the sidewall blank to form a side seam, and a clamp ring selectively movable into engagement with the seam clamp. The clamp ring includes an annular wall forming a recess for receiving a rotatable tool which presses against the flap portion and the lip to form a bottom seal. Part of the seam clamp protrudes into the clamp ring, and part of the clamp ring protrudes into the seam clamp to form a bridge acting against the overlapped side seam at the top of the lip.

摘要： A dual walled insulating paperboard container is disclosed. The container preferably includes an inner cup and an outer cup each having tapered sidewalls. The sidewalls, however, have different angles of taper to provide an insulating cavity therebetween. Additionally, the bottom of the inner cup is spaced from the bottom of the outer cup to create an insulating barrier along the bottom of the container. The outer cup also includes a stepped region along its top that cooperates with a curled top edge of the inner cup to provide another insulating cavity along the top of the container.

摘要： A method for forming an overwrap container includes the steps of a) providing a base container having a first side seam on a side wall that extends along a longitudinal axis to define an internal volume, and a bottom secured to the side wall; b) providing the side wall of the base container with connecting elements on an outer periphery of the side wall; c) providing an overwrap having a second side seam over the side wall of the base container such that the overwrap is joined in spaced apart relationship by the connecting elements to the side wall of the base container; d) clamping the overwrap to the base container along the second side seam to form a first compressed area; e) clamping the overwrap to the base container in an area 180° removed from the second side seam to form a second compressed area: and f) reforming the second compressed area to define an overwrap container having a substantially uniform spacing and air gap between the base container and the overwrap except in the first compressed area.

摘要： A machine and a method for forming a rim of a paperboard container having a bottom and a sidewall terminating at a rim are disclosed. The machine includes a frame, a turret rotatably coupled to the frame, a plurality of circumferentially spaced pockets supported by the turret and a plurality of workstations about the turret. Each pocket includes a shell having a cavity with a mouth configured to receive the container along an axis and a first member about the cavity and including a first surface. The first surface is one of a flat surface and a concave surface and is actuatable along the axis from a retracted position below the mouth to an extended position adjacent the mouth. The plurality of workstations includes a first station and a second station. The first station has a first tool with a second surface, wherein the second surface is said one of a flat surface and a concave surface. The first tool is adapted to move along the axis so as to engage and form the paperboard rim between the first and second surfaces. The second station includes a second tool having a third surface, wherein the third surface is the other of a flat surface and a concave surface. The second station further includes a plurality of die segments about the second tool. Each segment has a fourth surface, wherein the fourth surface is the other of a flat surface and a concave surface. The die segments are adapted to move along the axis and to pivot between a closed position in which the fourth surface engages and forms a rim and an opened position.

摘要： A machine for making non-cylindrical paper container, including wings for wrapping a container blank around a non-cylindrical mandrel. The wings each have a supplement wing portion pivotably attached thereto, and as the wings are moved into the mandrel-engaging position, a mandrel-contacting part of the supplement wing portions that abuts against the mandrel causes those portions to swingingly approach the mandrel. In this manner, the wing portions may move unobstructively past the mandrel as the wings and wing portions wrap the blank against the mandrel.
