An apparatus for producing containers from paper or paper-like material. The container has a lateral surface made of a wound sheet-like segment, of which segment edges arranged on longitudinal sides overlap and form a region of overlap, and a pan-like termination element. The lateral surface and the termination element are connected to one another in an essentially liquid-tight manner by skirt, and at least one pressing ram is provided for pressing and sealing the skirt, the pressing ram subjecting the skirt to essentially radially directed pressure. The pressing ram has a radially projecting protrusion in a portion provided for the purpose of acting on a boundary portion of the region of overlap of the lateral surface of the skirt.

Consists in that a cardboard tube, with respect to a narrow marginal end area of the same provided with a hollow interior roll, is applied against a rotatory die which has a concave surface suitable for forming an entrant perimetric step by means of constriction of said narrow marginal area, the diameter of the riser thereof being equal to the interior diameter of said cardboard tube and, at the same time, against said interior hollow roll is applied a force of enough intensity to flatten the cavity of the interior hollow roll and apply the wall thereof against the interior face of the wall of the cantilevered end of the cardboard tube formed by the action of said rotatory die.
Abstract:
Apparatus for lubricating and curling a rim of a paperboard container includes a housing block defining a central recess sized and configured to accept therein a rim of a paperboard container to be curled. An annular curling channel is disposed in the recess for curling the rim of the paperboard container in response to relative advancing movement between the paperboard container and the housing block. The housing block also defines an annular liquid channel concentrically disposed in surrounding relationship to the annular curling channel for distributing lubricating liquid. A porous liquid transfer ring is attached to the housing block in covering relationship to the annular liquid channel so that lubricating liquid supplied to the liquid channel comes into contact with the liquid transfer ring. The liquid transfer ring includes a circular edge surface which defines a central opening such that the liquid transfer ring extends at least partially over the curling channel. In use, the rim of the paperboard container comes into wiping contact with the central opening of the liquid transfer ring so that lubricating liquid is transferred thereto prior to the rim being curled in the curling channel.

The invention relates to a process for the fabrication of a drum made of kraft paper according to which a sheet of kraft paper is rolled on a mandril so as to constitute a rotating cylindrical tube. The end of the tube which forms the bottom is rolled with more than one turn and receives a disk which constitutes the bottom of the drum. The disk is then placed on the ridge (8) formed by the rolled edge, and a retaining collar (10) is placed around the tube. The collar is then tightened to clamp the disk (3A) onto the tube.

The invention provides a process and apparatus for forming an outwardly rolled lip on a cylindrical container body. The apparatus of the invention includes a mandrel having a cylindrical shaped portion and a lip forming annular cavity positioned coaxially with, and axially spaced from the cylindrical portion of the mandrel. The annular cavity has a generally semi-circular cross-section including an open mouth and a closed bottom extending outwardly of the mandrel. The mandrel additionally includes a radially tapered portion between the cylindrical portion and the lip forming die. The radially tapered portion tapers radially outwardly in the direction towards the lip forming die. An axial forcing means forces a cylindrical container body axially along the mandrel towards the lip forming die to thereby stretch the open end before the end is forced into the cavity and rolled outwardly.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for forming a tubular yarn carrier of the type adapted to have a yarn wound thereon to form a yarn package, and which includes an inturned annular end portion which is adapted to support the carrier on an internal spindle of a winding machine. The method of forming the inturned annular end portion includes inwardly turning one end of a tubular body member and so as to cause the end to be inwardly turned about an arc of about 180.degree., and while concurrently guiding the inwardly turned end radially outwardly into contact with the inside wall surface of the tubular member. The method results in the formation of a frusto-conical end portion which essentially locks against the inside wall surface of the carrier and thus prevents the inturned end portion from opening up during use.

An improved apparatus for supplying fluid such as liquid lubricant or glue to a partially assembled container during assembly thereof. The apparatus employs a flexible tube pump driven by a reciprocatable frame or structure on a container assembling machine via a lever arm acting through a one-way clutch assembly to thereby rotate the tube pump rotor in successive increments of rotation of less than 360.degree.. In one embodiment, apparatus is disclosed in which a liquid dispensing head is reciprocated into and out of engagement with a partially assembled container by means of a reciprocatable frame and actuation of the flexible tube pump is obtained after such engagement in response to additional movement of the frame relative to the liquid dispensing head. In another embodiment, means are disclosed for preventing dispensing of liquid when a container will not be present at the liquid dispensing station.
