摘要: An ultraviolet radiation starting source for an arc discharge lamp includes a sealed envelope with a press seal, a gaseous fill material within the envelope, a molybdenum ribbon which extends from the press seal into the interior region of the envelope and a wire inlead for carrying electrical energy to the ribbon. A method of manufacture includes flowing a fill material through a tube. Further, a seal is formed at one end of the tube, the interior of the tube is pumped to a desired pressure and another press seal is formed at the second end of the tube to create a sealed envelope.

摘要: A metal halide arc discharge lamp comprises an arc tube containing a chemical fill including mercury and metal halides and having first and second electrodes respectively sealed at opposite ends thereof. An outer envelope surrounds the arc tube and has first and second terminals for electrical connection thereto. A source of ultraviolet radiation is provided within the outer envelope proximate the arc tube for producing radiation which illuminates the path between the electrodes of the arc tube to decrease the amount of time for generating a gaseous discharge therebetween. The ultraviolet light source includes an envelope of ultraviolet light transmitting material containing a fill material and having a single electrode sealed in one end thereof. The single electrode is electrically coupled to one electrode of the arc tube. A portion of the envelope of the ultraviolet light source is capacitively coupled to the other electrode of the arc tube such that the source produces ultraviolet radiation during lamp starting when the first and second terminals of the lamp are energized.

An electrode is provided in each end of the tubular member and a phosphor coating is applied to the interior surface of the tubular member. A mercury dispenser is situated within the tubular member. The mercury dispenser includes a body composed of a material. The body is provided with a bore. A wire plated with a material capable of wetting mercury is provided in the bore. A quantity of mercury is deposited in the bore in contact with the wire.

摘要: A high pressure, lamp may be made in a pressure vessel by using an induction coil to melt an edge portion of a sealing wafer pressed against the circumference of an opening in the body of the lamp envelope. The pressure vessel and the lamp envelope are filled with desired fill materials. Induction heating is carried out by the induction coil and induction receiver that presses against the wafer, the lamp envelope or both to hold the melting piece or pieces in contact. The induction receiver may be fused to the lamp body forming a functional part of the overall lamp structure. The preferred resulting lamp includes a bonded metal piece that can be conveniently used for electrical or mechanical coupling or positioning of the lamp with respect to a base.

摘要: A closed-loop, tubular lamp envelope and methods of manufacturing closed-loop, tubular lamp envelopes are disclosed. A dome is formed at one end of a light-transmissive tube. A blister is molded on the dome, and a hole is formed in the molded blister. Next, a dome is formed at the other end of the light-transmissive tube. A blister is formed on the dome, and a second hole is formed in the molded blister. Each of the molded blisters includes a rim which defines the respective hole. A second tube is processed in the same way. The respective rims at the ends of the first and second tubes are fused together to form a sealed, closed-loop lamp envelope. Each tube may be bent to provide a desired shape of the lamp envelope. The molding of the rims insures that the sealing surfaces match.

摘要: This invention relates to a glow discharge starter including a glow bottle having a hermetically sealed discharge envelope containing an ionizable medium, a bimetallic electrode and a counter electrode. A pair of conductors extending from the main body of a radio frequency suppressing capacitor electrically coupling respective electrodes of the glow bottle. The main body of the capacitor is in a thermal relationship with the discharge envelope and responsive to heat generated therewithin. When a predetermined temperature limit is reached within the discharge envelope, the generated heat creates a short circuit within the main body of the capacitor and extinguishes the glow discharge. The present invention eliminates the need for an additional fuse member or thermal protector.

摘要: A starting and operating circuit for gaseous discharge lamps which includes a pair of input terminals for connection to an alternating current supply and a pair of output terminals for connection across the lamp. A ballast inductor is connected at its ends in series between one of the input terminals and one of the output terminals. A pulse generator is connected between one of the input terminals and one of the output terminals and another pulse generator is connected between a tapping point on the ballast inductor and the outer input terminal or the other output terminal or a point on the connection therebetween. The high voltage pulse generator includes a non-linear capacitor (NLC) and a semiconductor bipolar thyristor (commonly known as SIDAC) connected in series, the non-linear capacitor and the bipolar thyristor being connected in parallel with the lamp.
