Abstract:
The present invention enables to increase the speed of recognizing characters on an undefined-size postal matter such as a flat mail. The flat mail often has an address area different in color or pattern from the flat mail itself. The present invention provides an image input apparatus including pickup means of monochromatic-mode CCD 31 having a fine resolution capable of recognizing characters and pickup means of color-mode CCD 30 having a rough resolution only sufficient for detecting an address area. These pickup means are mounted in a unitary block so that images are taken in from approximately identical positions and a color image is used to detect an address area and a monochromatic image is used to recognize characters, thereby significantly increasing the speed of flat mail classification. An illumination unit 44 is forcibly cooled so as to enable to use a large-output lamp tube 75 capable of illuminating a wide range to assure the character recognition.

Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved feeling of flatness of a color cathode ray tube which facilitates the coating operation of a phosphor layer or enlarges an effective area of the phosphor layer. The effective area 4b of the phosphor layer 4 which is formed on an inner surface of a panel and has an approximately rectangular shape is formed in a pincushion shape. At end portions in a diagonal axis D direction of this pincushion-shaped phosphor layer 4b, corner-portion peripheries 4C having a curvature R which are formed in a convex shape outwardly from the effective region 4b are formed in corner regions which connect long-side peripheries sandwiching an X axis and short-side peripheries sandwiching a Y axis.
Abstract:
A color cathode ray tube includes in combination an in-line type electron gun assembly and a dot type phosphor screen, wherein an outer panel surface is made substantially flat, an inner surface is curved and a shadow mask has round apertures or holes while having a curved shape with a convex form as projected toward the panel. The display tube is featured in that the shadow mask holes have a horizontal direction pitch Ph and vertical direction pitch Pv, that the horizontal pitch Ph has a value at terminate ends of a minor axis of the shadow mask, which value is at least 5% greater than a pitch value at the center part of the shadow mask, and that a Ph/Pv value at the shadow mask minor axis ends is greater than that at the shadow mask center. With such an arrangement, it is possible to increase the mechanical strength at a part adjacent to the shadow mask minor axis in particular.
Abstract:
A color cathode ray tube includes a shadow mask having an apertured portion, an imperforate portion and a skirt portion. The shadow mask of an iron-nickel alloy is suspended within a support frame, has a descending step portion around the imperforate portion, the skirt portion which is fitted in the support frame is integral with the descending step portion, is provided with plural beads parallel with a height of the skirt portion and protruding inward. The descending step portion satisfies one of conditions (a)-(c) of (a) its height is from 30% to 501 of H0, (b) its width is from 65% to 80% of W0, or (c) its height H and width W are from 30% to 50% of H0 and from 65% to 80% of W0, respectively, where H0 and W0 are its height and width at centerlines of long and short sides of the skirt portion, respectively.
Abstract:
An alarm is emitted when a vehicle attempts to start when the speed ratio of a toroidal continuously variable transmission is small. A sensor (63. 67. 73) detects that the speed ratio is smaller than a predetermined range. A microprocessor (61) controls an alarm (68) to operate when an ignition switch (66) is in a position for starting an engine, while the speed ratio is smaller than the predetermined range.
Abstract:
A speed change control device for an automatic transmission wherein the speed ratio is automatically varied according to a running state when an automatic shift mode is selected, and the speed ratio is varied based on a manual operation when the manual shift mode is selected. When there is a change-over from the automatic shift mode to the manual shift mode, a speed ratio immediately after the change-over is set to a speed ratio such that a transmission input rotation speed after the change-over increases by at least a predetermined rotation speed compared to the transmission input rotation speed before the change-over. In this way, the effectiveness of engine braking is enhanced immediately after a change-over to the manual shift mode, or a downshift for acceleration can be definitively performed.
Abstract:
A speed ratio controller for a continuously variable transmission comprises a sensor (66) for detecting the activation of a catalyst purifying the exhaust gas of the engine, a sensor (62) for detecting an engine load, a sensor (63) for detecting a vehicle speed and a microprocessor (61) for controlling the transmission. The microprocessor (61) stores a first speed change map defining a speed ratio of the transmission according to the vehicle speed and engine load, and a second speed change map defining a larger speed ratio than the speed ratio defined in the first speed change map in a range where the vehicle speed is lower than a predetermined vehicle speed and the engine load is lower than a predetermined engine load. In order to determine the speed ratio of the transmission, the microprocessor (61) applies the first speed change map until the catalyst is activated and the second speed change map after the catalyst is activated.
Abstract:
A rolling mill having a plurality of roll units, a rolling-reduction adjusting device of an eccentric-cartridge type, and a roll-alignment adjusting device, all mounted on its housing. The housing is split into freely separable and joinable first and second housing segments. The housing segments have semicircular bearing-holder segments formed in their joint surfaces. The shafts of the roll units are held between the first and second housing segments by being journaled in eccentric cartridges which are fitted in the bearing holders consisting of the semicircular bearing-holder segments. The roll-alignment adjusting device includes adjusting mechanisms and chucks to connect the shaft ends of the roll units to the adjusting rods of the adjusting mechanisms. Each adjusting mechanism further comprises (i) an outer nut which is fixed to the housing and has internal threads, (ii) a middle nut which has internal and external threads, the external threads engaging the internal threads of the outer nut, and is rotated externally, and (iii) an adjusting rod which has external threads to engage the internal threads of the middle nut. A first thread joint is defined by the internal threads of the outer nut. An external thread is defined by the middle nut and the second thread joint by the internal threads of the middle nut and the external threads of the adjusting rod. The first and second thread joints are each given a thread of the opposite hand and a different pitch.
