Abstract:
A method for the preparation of omega lactams is disclosed, more particularly epsilon caprolactam or a precursor thereof (such as cyclohexanone oxime), using as the starting material a cyclomethylene ketene, with the simultaneous formation of side products such as cyclohexanecarboxylic acid, wherein an adduct is preliminarly formed between cyclomethylene ketene and sulphur dioxide. The adduct is then reacted with a nitrosating agent so as to obtain, under the appropriate reaction conditions, the expected lactam, more specifically epsilon caprolactam.

COMPOSITE FILAMENTS OF A POLYOLEFIN AND A POLYAMIDE WHICH ARE HIGHLY CRIMPABLE WITHOUT SEPARATION OR CLEAVAGE ARE PRODUCED BY THE CONJUGATE SPINNING OF (1) A MOLTEN FIBER-FORMING POLYAMIDE SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF NYLON-11 NYLON-12, NYLON-11.10, NYLON-11.11 AND NYLON-11.12 AND (2) A MOLTEN FIBER-FORMING POLYOLEFIN SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF POLYETHYLENE AND POLYPROPYLENE. THE CONJUGATE SPINNING RATIO OF THE TWO POLYMERIC MATERIALS WHICH ARE EMPLOYED TO FORM THE COMPOSITE FILAMENTS IS MAINTAINED BETWEEN 8:2 AND 2:8 RATIOS OUTSIDE SUCH RANGE INVOLVING DIFFICULTIES. ADDITIONALLY, IN USING HEAT TO EFFECT THE CRIMPING, THE TEMPERATURE IS MAINTAINED BETWEEN ABOUT 70* AND ABOUT 150*C.

A copolyamide fiber of reduced stickiness which consists essentially of a fibers forming copolyamide consisting of 70 - 95 percent by weight of polycaproamide polyhexamethylene adipamide and 30 - 5 percent by weight of at least one of comonomers copolymerizable therewith and from 0.01 to 5 percent by weight, based on the copolyamide, of at least one normal paraffin selected from the group consisting of methane series hydrocarbons represented by the formula CnH2n 2, wherein n is an integer of from 14 to 70, dispersed homogeneously throughout said copolyamide.

IN THE MANUFACTURE OF POLYAMIDES FOR INDUSTRIAL USES IN GENERAL, SUCH AS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FIBERS, YARNS MOULDED ARTICLES AND THE LIKE, THE IMPROVEMENT IS HEREIN DISCLOSED, WHICH CONSISTS IN THE CONCURRENT ADDITION OF A STABILIZING COPPER COMPOUND AND OF AN ALLYL HALIDE, IN WHICH THE HYDROGEN ATOM OF THE DOUBLE-BONDED METHYLENE GROUPING IS POSSIBLY SUBSTITUTED BY AN ALIPHATIC RADICAL. ALLYL CHLORDE HAS PROVEN TO BE THE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS IN ITS CLAS. VERY SUPRISINGLY, THE PRESENCE OF AN ALLYL CHLORIDE AS DEFINED ABOVE HAS EXHIBITED AN UNPREDICTABLE ACTIVITY IN NUETRALIZING THE DISCOLOURATION WHICH WOULD BE OTHERWISE EXPERIENCED SHOULD THE COPPER COMPOUND BE USED ALONE. PRODUCTS HAVING AN OUTSTANDINGLY HIGH WHITENESS RATING HAVE BEEN THUS OBTAINED.
