Abstract:
The present invention provides an emulsion composition containing (a) a first phase with (i) an oil soluble inert medium; and (ii) an emulsifier capable of forming a water-in-oil emulsion; and (b) a second phase with (i) a metal base; (ii) an aqueous medium; and (iii) optionally a compound containing two or more hydroxyl groups, wherein a base in the form of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate; or combinations thereof; and wherein the emulsion composition has a flow rate through a 45 μm filter of more than 8 ml/min in a filterability test carried out at ambient temperature and 45 kPa applied vacuum; wherein the filter has diameter of 5 cm and a mesh size of about 45 μm; and wherein the oil soluble inert medium in the filtration test is an oil of lubricating viscosity of a SAE 50 base oil. The invention further provides a method of preparing the emulsion composition and its use in a marine engine.
Abstract:
A diaphragm pump has a magnetic actuator. A permanent magnetic assembly is secured to the outside face of the diaphragm of the pump and provides at least a pair of opposed magnetic pole faces directed away from the diaphragm. An electromagnet assembly has at least a pair of opposite poles located opposite but spaced from the pole faces of the permanent magnet assembly. Energizing the electromagnet with alternating current, alternately repels and attracts the permanent magnet assembly, thereby reciprocating the diaphragm to operate the pump.

A lubricant composition containing a metal-containing detergent in an amount to provide at least about 2 TBN to the lubricant, and a dispersant comprising an oleophilic portion comprising at least about 40 carbon atoms and an acid-bearing portion, characterized in having a TAN:TBN ratio of at least about 0.8, exhibits good TBN retention.

The present invention relates to a lubricating composition, particularly marine diesel engine lubricating compositions, comprising: (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; (b) an asphaltene dispersant comprising an amide group, which may also contain a succinimide group, and which may optionally be used in combination with additional asphaltene dispersants that contain a cyclic headgroup that contains a nitrogen atoms where the additional asphaltene dispersants may also include a succinimide group; and (c) a detergent derived from an alkyl phenol. The invention further provides methods of using such compositions in the operation of engine, particularly marine diesel engines.

A turbo-charged, sump-lubricated internal combustion engine which is susceptible to contamination of lubricant with liquid fuel, is lubricated with a lubricant which contains an amount of an aminic antioxidant, optionally in the absence of a phenolic antioxidant, thereby reducing the deterioration of said lubricant and formation of turbo sludge.

Turbo sludge formation is Improved in a turbo-charged, sump-lubricated internal combustion engine which is susceptible to contamination of lubricant with liquid fuel by providing said engine with a lubricant which contains an amount of an oil-soluble alkali metal salt effective to reduce the deterioration of said lubricant and said fuel contaminant.

A lubricating composition containing (a). at least 3 weight percent of an overbased sulphonate detergent with a metal ratio of 12.5:1 to 40:1; (b). at least 1.5 weight percent of a sulphur containing phenate detergent with a metal ratio of not more 2.5; and (c). an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the sulphur containing phenate contains oligomers of hydrocarbyl phenol with at least 50 wt % of said oligomers in the form of the tetramer or higher oligomers. The composition is suitable for internal combustion engines, particularly marine diesel applications to provide improved cleanliness decreased cylinder wear and reduced deposits.

The invention provides a method of lubricating a marine diesel engine, comprising supplying to said engine a marine diesel cylinder lubricant composition at a feed rate of 0.3 to less than 1.2 g/kW hr, wherein said lubricant composition has a ratio of /Σ(wt % overbased detergent)/Σ(wt % of boron from antiwear additives+wt % of phosphorus-containing antiwear additives) of greater than 12.5. The invention further provides a method capable of imparting improved cleanliness and decreased cylinder wear; and reduced deposits.
