Abstract: A galvanic isolator circuit and method provide for galvanically isolating and current limiting a power source from a load. A direct current (DC) input voltage (“vin”) and an input current (“iin”) are received. A full- or half-bridge rectifier is switched to synthesize a first alternating voltage waveform that magnetically couples through a transformer to induce a second alternating voltage waveform with galvanic isolation from the first alternating voltage waveform, preventing potentially-faulted load from a source. The second alternating voltage waveform is rectified to produce a direct current (DC) output voltage (“vo”) having output current (“io”) through more than one drive transistor or diode. The more than one primary-side drive transistor is current limited to reduce or prevent brown-out, black-out, or protective race conditions in the non-faulted portions of DC power generation systems and DC distribution electrical power systems.

Abstract: The present disclosure addresses a novel feedback design methodology to meet the emerging frontiers of beamforming radio frequency (RF) technology in the areas of machine learning and surveillance. The feasibility of developing adaptive waveform modulation schemes for spectrum management in radars via orthogonal wavelet concepts. With the increasing prevalence of RF spectrum bandwidth limitations, this approach of adaptive feedback waveforms addresses advanced signal processing beamforming technique for phase array RF improving overall sensing performance. The adaptive illumination waveform algorithms for enhancing detection, discrimination, and tracking is motivated from the analogy drawn between the cellular wireless communication systems and the general multi-static radar automotive systems. The present innovation has developed signal processing schemes of adaptive illumination waveforms for enhancing RF detection performance and have developed a unified system architecture of the adaptive radar waveform design for various scenarios including multi-static radars and multiple targets.

Abstract: A radiation imaging system images a distributed source of radiation from an unknown direction by rotating a scatter mask around a central axis. The scatter mask has a pixelated outer surface of tangentially oriented, flat geometric surfaces that are spherically varying in radial dimension that corresponds to a discrete amount of attenuation. Rotation position of the scatter mask is tracked as a function of time. Radiation counts from gamma and/or neutron radiation are received from at least one radiation detector that is positioned at or near the central axis. A rotation-angle dependent detector response curve (DRC) is generated based on the received radiation counts. A reconstruction algorithm for distributed radiation source(s) and/or localized source(s) are applied based on the tracked rotation position and prior characterization of the detector response for a given scatter mask. A two-dimensional image with relative orientation and source distribution is generated from the measured DRC.

Abstract: A vehicle, system, and method provide determining whether a thermal risk exists for an occupant of a passenger compartment of a vehicle based on: identifying, via the temperature sensor, that the temperature within the passenger compartment is outside of a safe temperature range, identifying, via an electronic control module, that an engine of the vehicle is not running, and identifying, via the occupant sensor, that an occupant is in the passenger compartment. In response to determining that the thermal risk exists, a controller starts starting the engine via an ignition locking system, closes power-actuated windows of the passenger compartment, locks power-locked doors of the passenger compartment, and activates a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system of the vehicle via a climate control unit. The HVAC maintains the temperature of the passenger compartment within the safe temperature range to safeguard the occupant until return of a responsible party.

Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a passive optical sensor on a tip of an optical fiber. The method includes perpendicularly cleaving a tip of an optical fiber and mounting the tip of the optical fiber in a specimen holder of a photosensitive polymer three-dimensional micromachining machine. The method includes forming a three-dimensional microscopic optical structure within the photosensitive polymer that comprises a two cavity Fabry-Perot Interferometer (FPI) having a hinged optical layer that is pivotally coupled to a suspended structure. The method includes removing an uncured portion of the photosensitive polymer using a solvent. The method includes depositing a reflective layer on a mirror surface of the hinged optical layer. The method includes positioning the pivotally hinged optical layer to a closed position with the suspended structure, aligning the mirror surface with the cleaved tip of the optical fiber.
