摘要: The object of the present invention is to maintain redundancy of file without using a centralized controller in a system where a plurality of file servers are connected with each other via a network. Each domain ND within a file storage system 10 includes a file server FS, a monitoring server WS, and a client CL, which are connected with each other via a LAN. When the file server FS detects a failure having occurred in another file server FS included in the system, it considers that redundancy of a file stored in the failed file server FS has decreased, and then determines whether or not it is responsible for recovering the redundancy. If the file server FS has determined that it is responsible for recovering the redundancy, it selects a file server FS as a file copy source and a file server FS as a file copy destination, and then copies based on the selection the identical file from the copy source server to the copy destination server.

摘要: A magnetron sputtering apparatus for forming a thin metal film on one of the major surfaces of a light-transmitting disc-shaped substrate as a disc substrate for an optical disc as mutually intersecting magnetic fields are applied by a magnetic field application unit provided at back of a target. The apparatus includes a center mask tightly contacted with the outer peripheral portion of one major surface of the disc substrate on which the thin film is formed for masking the center portion of the substrate and an outer peripheral mask tightly contacted with the outer peripheral portion of the one major surface of the disc substrate on which the thin film is formed for masking the outer peripheral portion. The outer peripheral mask is separated from and independent of the center mask.

摘要: A method of transferring multimedia data from an input device to an output device in a computer system having a plurality of input/output devices. An application program specifies an origination and destination of multimedia data transfer and orders multimedia data transfer start. A periodic driven program conducts multimedia data transfer in accordance with the order given by the application program. The application program can conduct other processing irrespective of the multimedia transfer state after giving the transfer start order. The periodic driven program operates with a predetermined period, divides multimedia data, and transfers the multimedia data in a plurality of periods.

摘要: An optical disk apparatus is downsized. The optical disk apparatus comprises an optical disk drive mechanism having a rotating mechanism for rotating an optical disk and an optical head for optically reading data on the optical disk, and a circuit board. An analog circuit and a digital circuit are mounted upon a single surface on one side of the circuit board of the optical disk drive mechanism. This analog circuit includes a drive circuit for driving the optical head, and a read circuit for creating read data from detection signals of the optical head. The digital circuit includes a one chip LSI circuit having a processor for executing the main control, a memory connected to an internal address/data bus and used for processing of the processor, a logic circuit connected to the internal address/data bus for creating a timing gate for transmitting and receiving the data to and from the optical head, and a controller connected to the internal address/data bus and for performing interface control with a host apparatus.

摘要: In response to the issue of a request for processing long data from an application node to a server A, the server A sends a message requesting a server B for the processing of the long data. The server B requests the application node to transmit the long data to the server B by using a message, and receives the long data directly from the application node without passing through the server A. As a result, the overhead caused by transferring the long data from a server to a server of another node is eliminated, and the load of the network is reduced.

摘要: The system of the present invention curbs an unnecessary inter-tier file migration and provides an inter-tier file migration that conforms to the utilization state. The hierarchical storage management system respectively migrates a frequently accessed file to the upper Tier, and an infrequently accessed file to the lower Tier. This system carries out inter-tier file migration in conformance with the utilization state. This system provides functions for anchoring a Tier for storage for a specified file, and for not permitting an inter-tier file migration.
