Abstract: An introducer assembly includes an introducer element (80), which may have a catheter or sheath (82), a pusher element (84) holding an implantable medical device (88) and a dilator tip (90). The assembly also includes a protective sleeve (72) within which the introducer element (80) is disposed. The protective sleeve (72) is made of an absorbable hydrophilic material which is deployed in a wetted condition and acts as a cushion or barrier between the introducer element (80) and the vessel wall (60). The sleeve can prevent trauma to the vessel during the deployment of the introducer element (80) and as a result can avoid vessel spasm which can occur in delicate vessels such as the cerebral vessels. The introducer assembly may be used for cerebral applications.

Abstract: An aortic arch device that is a unitary tube of graft material having a crimped unstented portion and a stented portion, a collar at the junction of the crimped unstented portion and the stented portion, at least one fenestration or lateral opening in the graft material to accommodate arteries in the aortic arch. Branches may extend from the fenestrations.

Abstract: A stent graft for deployment in a curved lumen such as the aortic or thoracic arch comprises a constraining mechanism at its proximal end. A stent provided at the proximal end of the stent graft includes loops of material that co-operate with restraining wires that extend between a central guide wire carrier and a restraining wire cannula. The constraining mechanism acts to maintain the proximal stent constrained at both the proximal and distal ends of the proximal stent. The proximal stent is thus allowed to expand after expansion of the remainder of the stent graft during deployment. In an embodiment, the constraining mechanism acts to constrain two adjacent struts of the proximal stent at three points radially therearound, at the proximal end of the stent and at the distal end of the stent. The proximal stent may then overlap with the interior of an adjacent stent at an inner part of a curved vessel.

Abstract: A delivery system for an occlusion balloon includes a delivery catheter and a balloon releasably detached thereto. The balloon can include a base portion that is threaded onto the end of the delivery catheter. The balloon can include a one-way valve or septum in the base portion, through which a filling needle is inserted into a cavity of the balloon. The balloon can be filled with a fluid to expand the balloon and fix the balloon within the patient's body. The balloon can be filled with a hardening material to assist in fixing the balloon in place and occluding the blood vessel. The balloon can include anchoring structure on its outer surface to assist in the fixing the location of the balloon. The delivery device and needle can be detached and withdrawn from the balloon, allowing the septum to close and seal the balloon, leaving the balloon fixed within the body vessel.

Abstract: An implant release mechanism for releasing, for example, a stent (60) is provided with three restraining wires (62) which pass in the space between a wire guide catheter (24) and a pusher sheath or dilator (30) and are arranged substantially equi-angularly threrearound. Each restraining wire (62) holds both the proximal and distal ends of the stent (60), in this case each holding a proportion of the ends of the stent (60). When the restraining wires (62) are pulled they will first unwrap from the proximal end of the stent (60) and will then release the distal end of the stent (60) so as to allow the stent to become fully deployed within the lumen of the patient. The use of common release wires improves deployment of implants and reduces the number and volume of components in the device, thereby allowing it to occupy a smaller volume.
