摘要: The present invention provides a compact, highly automated photometric analyzer for measuring the concentration of substances found in a fluid, typically a blood sample or other body fluid sample taken from a patient. The operator places a small quantity of the sample into a special rotor and then loads the rotor into the analyzer. The analyzer accepts the rotor, centrifuges and dilutes the sample, and distributes the sample into a plurality of cuvettes near the outer edge of the rotor. Some of these cuvettes hold reagents which react with the sample. The analyzer then measures light absorption within the sample at a number of preselected frequencies. According to the present invention, a pair of specially designed apertures direct light from the sample through a plurality of beam splitters, interference filters, and associated photodetectors. The system also includes means for performing automatic calibration and error checking functions. These means include a through hole through the rotor, and an opaque body carried by the rotor. Additionally, measurements may be repeated through a given cuvette and the results averaged to minimize the effect of random variations between measurements.

摘要: On-body units are provided and include a transcutaneous analyte sensor, electronic circuitry electrically coupled to the sensor, and an on-body housing having electrical contacts disposed thereon. The on-body housing comprises a substantially flat surface and a curved and convex surface opposite the substantially flat surface. Systems and methods including the on-body units are also provided. Methods for performing continuity measurements using on-body units are also provided. The methods include positioning an on-body unit (OBU) on a skin of a subject, contacting a continuity test instrument to the OBU; and performing a continuity measurement with the continuity test instrument. An AC signal may be provided across two electrical contacts, or a DC signal may be provided across two electrical contacts in opposite directions for the same amount of time. The measurement may be performed with one electrical contact, or with isolated electrical contacts.

摘要: A valve apparatus (2) for selectively distributing the sequential passage of separate, organic fluids to a common receiver, such as a reaction vessel. The valve apparatus comprises a valve body member (16) having multiple openings (56) and a plurality of separate conduits (54) each communicating a fluid source with one of the openings. The body member also has a common passage (60) with circular groove portions (62) surrounding the openings so that fluid flows radially outward from the openings toward the common passage. A plurality of pistons (30) are individually reciprocable between first and second positions for controlling fluid flow between associated openings and the common passage. The invention also provides a system (100) and method for measuring and delivering a precise quantity of each of the organic fluids, e.g., chemical reagents, to the reaction vessel.
