摘要: An automated lamination system for transferring an image to a print medium includes a photoconductive drum bearing a toned image on an electrostatic outer surface thereof. A dual purpose, heated lamination roller is moved to a first lamination position adjacent the drum to define a first nip between the drum and roller. The first nip in part defines a path for an image transfer web, and forces a thermally activated adhesive layer on the web against the drum. The image on the drum surface is embedded in the heated and softened adhesive layer as the web is advanced under pressure through the first nip. The dual purpose roller is later moved to a second lamination position adjacent a second lamination roller, to define a second nip therebetween. The second nip is configured to receive an image transfer substrate in registry with the latent image embedded in the adhesive of the web. The substrate and web are advanced through the second nip under heat and pressure, which forces the substrate against the adhesive layer and causes the substrate to adhere to the adhesive. A separation roller assembly spaced from the second nip along the path separates the web from the substrate so that the image embedded in the adhesive layer is borne by the image transfer substrate. The substrate is further processed through an optional inline deglossing station, while the web is rewound to align the remaining adhesive thereon with the drum for the transfer of another image.

摘要: A system for printing lines of no more than 20 microns on a receiver element (70) includes a laser for forming a series of pixel features on a flexographic plate. The pixel features form a relief pattern of non-overlapping or discontinuous raised pixel features on the elastomeric relief element (60). An inking system applies a printable material composition (20) to the flexographic plate. A print roller for transfers a printable material composition to flexographic plate.

摘要: An improved relief printing plate and method for producing said plate is disclosed. Substantially all sizes of relief features resolve a fixed pattern which improves print quality. The pattern is applied to image areas in halftone data used to produce an image mask that is subsequently used to convert a plate precursor into a relief plate. The accuracy, ink density and tonal response of printed images corresponding to relief features that include the pattern are comparable or better than relief features produced without the pattern.

摘要: A method for operating an electrophotographic proofing system for generating color proofs from image information during multiple imaging cycle proofing runs. Charge model information, development model information and toner replenishment model information are stored for each component color. Actual photoconductor charge characteristics are measured during the imaging cycles of the proofing runs. Actual toner characteristics from component color test patches developed during the imaging cycles are also measured. The photoconductor is charged during the imaging cycles as a function of the charge characteristics measured during a preceding imaging cycle for the same component color, and a as function of the charge model information for the color. The photoconductor is toned during imaging cycles as a function of toner characteristics measured from test patches during a preceding imaging cycle for the same component color and as a function of the development model information for the color. Working toner is replenished after the imaging cycles as a function of the development parameters used to tone the photoconductor during the imaging cycles for the same component color and as a function of the replenishment model information for the color. Charge model information and the development model information for each component color are updated as a function of measured values after the imaging cycles.

摘要: A drive system for positioning any one of a plurality of toner developing modules relative to a photoconductor drum of an electrographic printer includes an indexing assembly having a chain drive mechanism. The chain drive mechanism includes a motor driven tow bar that is configured to releasably engage a tow hook mounted to a movable toner cart. The toner cart includes a developer rack that supports the plurality of developing modules. The drive system further includes a lift assembly that is configured to engage any one of developing modules and move it away from the rack to a developing position adjacent the photoconductor drum and back to the developer rack. The lift assembly includes a pair of lift arms, each of which is defined by a four bar linkage. The lift arms include hook assemblies that are configured to engage lift pins mounted on opposite ends of the developing modules. Each hook assembly includes a first centering member that supports a movable spring biased second centering member. The opposite ends of the modules are configured to engage first gaping surfaces of a pair of gaping cams mounted adjacent to the photoconductor drum. This engagement establishes the vertical gap clearance needed between the drum and module for the developing process. The opposite ends of the modules are further configured to engage second gaping surfaces of the gaping cams to define the developing position of the developing modules.

摘要: A liquid color toners handling network for an electrographic printer includes a plurality of developing modules. Each developing module in turn includes a toner handling system having a toner supply reservoir with a toner pump coupled to a reservoir outlet. A T-connector is coupled to the toner pump and is further coupled to a toner supply reservoir inlet. A three-way ball valve is coupled in series with the T-connector and an inlet of the developing module. An additional fluid line couples an outlet of the developing module back to the three-way ball valve. This arrangement allows toner to be trapped between the three-way ball valve and developing module inlet so that toner can be supplied to the developing module in an instant-on manner. The handling network further includes a toner carrier pumping module that can be coupled to any one of the supply reservoirs and a toner concentrate supply container associated with each supply reservoir. This arrangement allows toner carrier and toner concentrate to be mixed within a static mixer associated with the supply reservoirs. A toner/air vacuum separator coupled betwen the developing module outlet and the three-way ball valve is further coupled to a vacuum pumping module. The vacuum pumping module includes a maintenance vacuum separator and a suction cleaning line that can be used to perform routine cleaning maintenance on the developing modules.

摘要: This application discloses a method of making high quality color prints by electrophotography. The prints are particularly suited to color proofing. A single photoconductive drum is used together with means to electrostatically charge, laser-scan expose, and toner develop during one rotation. In successive rotations different colored images corresponding to color separation images are assembled in register on the drum. This assembled color image is transferred to a receptor sheet in a final rotation of the drum.

摘要: A mask-forming film has a transparent layer between the imageable layer and the carrier sheet, which transparent layer has a refractive index that is lower (by at least 0.04) than that of the carrier sheet or any immediately adjacent layer between it and the carrier sheet. This lower refractive index layer modifies the path of incident radiation during mask image transfer so as to provide steeper shoulder angles in the relief image solid areas. This mask film is used to form a relief image such as in a flexographic printing plate.
