    摘要: The present invention relates to a process for the viscosification of an aqueous liquid which includes the steps of forming two solvent systems of an organic liquid or oil and a polar cosolvent, the polar cosolvent being less than about 15 weight percent of the solvent systems, a viscosity of both solvent systems being less than about 1,000 cps; dissolving an anionic polymer such as neutralized sulfonated polymer (water insoluble) in one of the solvent systems to form a first solution, and dissolving a cationic polymer such as a copolymer of vinyl pyridine, a concentration of the neutralized sulfonated polymer in the first solution being about 0.2 to about 10 weight percent, a concentration of the copolymer or vinyl pyridine in the second solution being about 0.2 to about 10 weight percent, a viscosity of both solutions being less than about 200 cps; mixing both solutions together to form a solution of an interpolymer complex of sulfonated polymer and vinyl pyridine polymer, and admixing or contacting said solution of said interpolymer complex with about 5 to about 500 volume percent water, the water being immiscible with the organic liquid and the polar cosolvent transferring from the organic liquid to the water phase, thereby causing the polymer containing phase to gel (i.e. thicken).

    摘要: The present invention relates to a process for the viscosification of an aqueous liquid which includes the steps of forming a solvent system of an organic liquid or oil and a polar cosolvent, the polar cosolvent being less than about 15 weight percent of the solvent system, a viscosity of the solvent system being less than about 1,000 cps; forming an interpolymer complex of neutralized sulfonated polymer (water insoluble) and copolymer of styrene/vinylpyridine in the solvent system to form a solution, a concentration of the water insoluble interpolymer complex polymer in the solution being about 0.01 to about 0.5 weight percent, a viscosity of the solution being less than about 200 cps; and admixing or contacting said solution with about 5 to about 500 volume percent water, the water being immiscible with the organic liquid and the polar cosolvent and interpolymer complex transferring from the organic liquid to the water phase, thereby causing the water phase to gel (i.e., thicken). The large increase in viscosity of the aqueous phase is directly attributed to the formation of a large number of minute water-filled particles dispersed in the continuous aqueous phase.

    摘要: This invention relates to extrusion and injection moldable type elastomeric compositions having a viscosity at 200.degree. C. at 0.73 sec.sup.-1 of about 8.times.10.sup.4 to about 8.times.10.sup.6 poises. The compositions used for elastomeric articles include neutralized sulfonated co- and terpolymers of octene-1/ethylene/ENB or sulfonated terpolymers of hexene-1/ethylene/ENB, about 15 to about 200 parts by weight of a non-polar process oil per 100 parts of polymer; about 50 to about 300 parts by weight of a filler per 100 parts of polymer; and a preferential plasticizer at about 1 to about 50 parts by weight per 100 parts of the sulfonated elastomeric polymer. The composition may also include a crystalline polyolefinic thermoplastic at less then about 100 parts per hundred by weight.These blend compositions can be readily processed due to their superior rheological properties on conventional plastic fabrication equipment into elastomeric articles having excellent physical properties and desirable rubbery characteristics.

    摘要: A method for controlling the viscosity of organic liquids, said organic liquid having a solubility parameter of less than 9.5, a viscosity, as measured at 25.degree. C., of less than 200 centipoises and said organic liquid is selected from the group consisting of mineral oils, synthetic oils, naphthanes, alkanes, cycloalkanes and aromatics and mixtures thereof, which comprises incorporating in said organic liquid about 0.01 to 20 grams of polymer complex per 100 ml. of said organic liquid, said polymer complex being formed "in situ" in said organic liquid or dissolved in said organic liquid, said complex being comprised of polymer A, containing about 4 meq. to 500 meq. of neutralized sulfonate groups, and polymer B, containing basic nitrogen groups, both functional groups being present at a level of from about 4 to 500 meq. per 100 g. of polymer, wherein polymer B has the formula: ##STR1## wherein x is about 50.0 to 99.8 weight percent and y is about 0.2 to about 50.0 weight percent, wherein said sulfonate groups of said polymer A being neutralized with basic compounds selected from the group consisting of transition elements, said polymer A having a polymeric backbone substantially soluble in said organic liquid and said polymer having a molecular weight of about 1,000 to 10,000,000.
