摘要: An exposure unit radiates a light image of an original document onto a charged photoconductive member to form an electrostatic image through localized photoconduction. A developing unit applies a powdered developing substance comprising carrier particles and toner particles to the photoconductive member to develop the electrostatic image and produce a toner image which is transferred and fixed to a copy sheet to produce a permanent reproduction of the original document. The tone density, or the ratio of toner particles to carrier particles in the developing substance is electromagnetically measured, and the developing ability of the developing substance is opticaly measured. The developing substance is replaced when the difference between the toner density and developing ability exceeds a predetermined value. Prior to exposure with the light image a reference electrostatic image is formed on the photoconductive member and the electrostatic potential thereof is measured. The intensity of the light image of the original document and/or a developing bias voltage are regulated in accordance with the sensed electrostatic potential. The reference image may be of a reference surface having a predetermined optical density or a portion of the original document produced by reverse optical scanning.

摘要: A development apparatus for developing a latent electrostatic image formed on a photoconductor with a one-component type developer has a charging device comprising at least two charging members for charging the developer held in a developer container. The first charging member serves both as a doctor blade and for regulating the amount of the developer on the development roller, and the second charging member charges the developer before it is charged by the first charging member. In the second charging member, there is formed a hole for allowing the developer to pass therethrough. The developer scraped by the first charging member is returned to the developer container through the hole and part of the scraped developer is carried back to the first charging member, so that a developer circulation path is formed in the charging device. While passing through the developer circulation path, the developer is charged further, whereby the developer is sufficiently charged before it is actually used for development.

摘要: A spongy roller is rotated so that the surface thereof is pressed against the surface of a photoconductive drum and moves in the opposite direction therefrom. A resilient blade is also pressed against the photoconductive drum downstream of the roller so as to define a trough therebetween into which is supplied a cleaning liquid. The roller and blade remove all residual toner substance from the drum which remains after development and transfer operations. The cleaning liquid is supplied only while the drum is being operatively rotated in a quantity sufficient to wash away substantially all removed toner substance from between the blade and the drum. The roller is large enough to absorb enough cleaning liquid to remain moist and prevent solidification of removed toner substance between the roller and the drum between copying operations and when the apparatus is shut down.

摘要: The process and device are for use in an electrophotographic copying machine using a developing agent of liquid type. A counter-electrode is maintained closely spaced from the peripheral surface of a photosensitive drum bearing an electrostatic latent image thereon and itself electrically floating. The developing solution, which inherently has a substantial conductivity is supplied into the space between the drum surface and the counter-electrode so as to develop the latent image. During the development of latent image, a weak d.c. current flow, is passed between the counter-electrode and the drum through the segment of the developing solution filling the space so that a good relation between potentials on the drum surface and the counter-electrode is obtained to eliminate background smearing. The d.c. current may be controlled to decrease in value as the induced potential on the counter-electrode increases.

摘要: A photoconductive member is charged and radiated with a light image to produce an electrostatic image. Sensing electrodes automatically sense the remaining potential in a portion of the electrostatic image corresponding to a background area of the original document scanned to produce the light image. In one embodiment the area is a white reference document disposed adjacent to the original document. In another embodiment a reference document is not provided and a plurality of portions of the electrostatic image are sensed. The lowest value of the sensed potential is utilized. Computing means compute and apply the biasing voltage to the developing electrode as a predetermined function of the sensed potential.

摘要: An image forming apparatus for electrostatically transferring a latent image formed on a photoconductive drum or similar image carrier to a recording medium held by a clamp drum or similar medium conveying member. The clamp drum has a cylinder or base made of aluminum, a conductive rubber layer covering the cylinder, and an overcoat layer covering the rubber layer and higher in electric resistance than the rubber layer. A bias voltage for latent image transfer is applied while the rubber layer is connected to ground. The photoconductive drum and clamp drum are pressed against each other by a predetermined force, the former following the rotation of the latter. The photoconductive drum is provided with a photoconductor having a great electrostatic capacity, thereby preventing the effective transfer voltage at the time of image transfer from increasing.

摘要: A developing apparatus using a liquid developer and a developing head located to face a path along which a recording medium carrying, for example, an electrostatic latent image thereon is transported. A groove is formed in the surface of the head that faces the transport path. After development, the liquid remaining at the corner defined by the upper inner portion of the groove and the medium is rapidly collected to allow a minimum of smear to occur on the part of the medium which will be transported later. When the transport of the medium should be interrupted during development due to, for example, a jam, the liquid in the groove is collected to prevent a great amount of liquid which would smear a drive roller and other transport members from being transferred from the head to the medium.
