    摘要: In an optical disk drive mounting a drive unit 20 having a control use circuit 21, and a pickup 1 having an aberration correction liquid crystal element 13 and a drive use circuit 2 which drives the aberration correction liquid crystal element, wherein the drive use circuit 2 stores astigmatic data for correcting a static astigmatism peculiarly provided in an optical system in the pickup 1 in an astigmatic data storage 6, and drives the aberration correction liquid crystal element 13 based on the astigmatic data. By storing the static astigmatic data peculiar to the pickup, inside the pickup, it is possible to transfer the stored astigmatic data to the optical disk drive side easily, and to correct the astigmatism by driving the aberration correction liquid crystal element based on the astigmatic data.

    摘要: A first electrode of a liquid crystal cell (21) is composed of a plurality of concentric electrodes (31 to 34) of a concentrically circular shape, the plurality of concentric electrodes are divided into a first group of concentric electrodes (44) near the center and a second group of concentric electrodes (45) near the periphery, and a concentric electrode between the two groups is an independent single electrode (36). A first correction unit that corrects spherical aberration of a high density DVD is composed of the two groups and a second correction unit that corrects aberration of a conventional DVD is composed of the first group of concentric electrodes (44). In the case of correcting the aberration of the conventional DVD, the independent concentric electrode (36) is supplied with a voltage between the voltages respectively supplied to adjacent concentric electrodes (35), (37). In the case of correcting the aberration of the high density DVD, the independent concentric electrode (36) is supplied with a voltage equal to the voltage supplied to the concentric electrode immediately lateral thereto (37).

    摘要: An optical pickup of a compatible type which can be switched for a DVD and a CD by a completely electrical control without the need of a mechanical moving device or the like and is suitable for the reduction in size and also has an excellent efficiency in the use of light. A liquid crystal panel of a transmission type which gives a phase difference of a 1/4 wavelength or a wavelength that is an odd number multiple of 1/4 wavelength to a transmission light and has a transparent electrode having an aperture pattern of a predetermined shape is used and the liquid crystal panel is arranged so that its plane of polarization crosses a plane of polarization of a polarization beam splitter at a predetermined angle. An applied voltage to the transparent electrode is controlled so that the whole surface of the liquid crystal panel functions as a 1/4 wavelength plate during a reproduction operation or a recording operation of the DVD and only the aperture pattern portion functions as a 1/4 wavelength plate during the reproduction operation of the CD.
