When an oil-flooded screw compressor is started up in a cold environment after a long halt, start-up torque increases due to the increased viscosity of the oil that has long stayed inside the working chambers of the compressor. This has necessitated drive means with a larger capacity than that required for normal operation.An oil-flooded screw compressor according to the invention comprises: a casing; a pair of rotors each having screw-thread-shaped groove and being housed in the casing; an electric motor for rotationally driving the pair of rotors; a control device for controlling the electric motor; an oil feeding mechanism for feeding oil into working chambers formed by being enclosed by the casing and the pair of rotors in which teeth thereof are meshed to each other; and an oil separating mechanism for separating the oil from compressed gas discharged from the working chambers. The oil-flooded screw compressor drives the pair of rotors at a rotational speed which is low enough not to increase torque for a short amount of time after start-up and accelerates the pair of rotors up to a normal-operation rotational speed after oil discharge. Alternatively, the oil-flooded screw compressor rotates the pair of rotors for a short amount of time after the remaining compressed gas is discharged after a halt, thereby allowing the oil accumulated inside the working chambers to be discharged and ensuring smooth start-up after the halt.

A controller comprises a voltage saturation detecting apparatus for detecting the voltage saturation of the output voltage of an inverter circuit, based on the battery voltage, and a waveform controller that converts the drive waveform of the inverter circuit into the waveform created by superimposing harmonics of high odd-numbered order on a sinusoidal wave as a fundamental wave of the modulated wave modulated by a PWN carrier wave; and continuously changes the ratio of superimposing the high-order harmonics in response to the voltage saturation detected by a voltage saturation detecting means. This arrangement allows the controller to continuously change the drive waveform of the inverter circuit.

A rotary sensor that outputs two analog signals, such as one sine wave and one cosine wave and has multiple periods within one period of the electrical angle of a motor is employed. The motor is energized at each position for a specified length of time upon its startup by using multiple electrical angles corresponding to the multiple candidate absolute angles obtained from the rotary sensor signal as the initial position of the motor, and the electrical angle at which the motor acceleration becomes maximum is determined as the absolute angle. While the motor drive is in operation, on the other hand, the phase difference Δθ between the phase of the motor at the counter electromotive voltage and the control phase is directly computed from the parameters of the motor, sensed current, voltage command and angle speed so as to correct the shifted position. A high-efficiency motor drive unit with improved maintainability of rotary sensor and improved accuracy of sensing the magnet pole position of a permanent magnet synchronous motor that accelerates and decelerates very quickly in a wide range of speed is realized.

A controlling apparatus controls a suction performance of a blower motor which is installed into a cleaner main body. The controlling apparatus increases the suction performance when a suction nozzle is operated and decreases the suction performance when the suction nozzle is stopped. Corresponding to a floor use suction nozzle and a crevice use suction nozzle, at a predetermined air flow amount range, the most suitable operation control being suited to a discriminated suction nozzle can carried out automatically. Plural kinds of the suction nozzles at an actual use scope are set beforehand. When the suction nozzle is exchanged the flow amount range is changed over and selected with a respective suction nozzle. Plural kinds of the suction nozzles are selected and changed over automatically according to the dimension of a change amount of an operation condition. A brushless direct motor is used as the blower motor and has a domain being operated at a chopper control duty of factor 100%.
