Abstract:
A method of sending a data stream of video images between a server and at least one client device in a communication network, employing a rate setting for the sending of data over the communication network, the method comprising the following steps: obtaining (910) an item of information Pc representing a speed of variation over time for a rate setting, said item of information depending on at least one characteristic of the state of the traffic over the communication network, comparing (920) said item of information Pc so obtained with a scheduled time Ev for a set of video image data to send, adapting (930) the rate setting delivered by the server on the basis of at least the result of the comparing step, compressing said set of video image data to send using a compression mode which depends on the adapted rate setting, sending said set of video image data so compressed.
Abstract:
To predict the transmission error rate in a stream of data packets transmitted between a server and at least one client in a communication network: the server sends at least one group of packets to the client; the client calculates a plurality of items of statistical information on the group of packets and transmits them to the server; the server analyzes the items of statistical information so as to obtain a network stability indicator; and the server calculates a prediction of the transmission error rate on the basis of the network stability indicator.
Abstract:
The method of transmission of a datastream representing a sequence of images over a network in which the quantity of information that may be sent per unit of time varies substantially cyclically, said transmission extending over a plurality of cycles, comprises: a step (805 to 807, 809, 810) of determining times for which the quantity of information that may be sent per unit of time over the network is greater, and respectively less, than its average, on the basis of the substantially cyclical past variation in said quantity of information and a step (801 to 805, 812 to 816) of sending over said network, at said times, images corresponding to a greater, and respectively smaller, quantity of information than the average of the images. During the determining step, a period of cyclical variation of the quantity of information that may be sent over the network is determined.
Abstract:
The invention concerns methods and devices for transferring data in a network and in particular the transfer of multimedia data. According to the invention described, a point of interconnection receives a configuration map from a client. When the point of interconnection receives a data packet from a server, it analyzes the received packet in order to detect the errors. If the received packet comprises errors and belongs to a stream identified in the configuration map, the point of interconnection selects error correction mechanisms specified in the configuration map. If these mechanisms are capable of correcting all the errors in the packet the latter is transmitted to the client in its original stream. If errors remain, the point of interconnection creates a new packet comprising the data of the received packet, possibly partially corrected, and information relating to the errors detected, to the correction mechanisms used and to the original identity of the data. The packets created by the point of interconnection are transmitted to the client by a particular stream not participating in the constitution of the original multimedia sequence.
Abstract:
