The impregnated fiber mat material can be punched into gasket blanks without problems.

A soft substance gasket material preferably made of a metal reinforced fiber mat is impregnated with a silicone impregnating agent comprising a mixture of a polysiloxane having reactive hydrogen groups such as a polyhydrogen siloxane, an addition cross-linking polysiloxane such as a methyl vinyl siloxane, and cross-linking catalysts, preferably in the form of only one organic metal compound. In spite of having small quantities of addition cross-linking polysiloxane and cross-linking catalysts, the impregnated seals are not tacky after cross-linking, they are easy and inexpensive to manufacture, and they evidence improved functional characteristics such as improved resistance to hot media, temperature and aging when compared with seals impregnated with only one type of polysiloxane.

Disclosed is a sealing assembly for metal components, wherein the sealing assembly has an electrical insulating effect, and wherein the sealing assembly comprises a ceramic layer and a base brazing material disposed thereon, to which germanium is added. The addition of germanium advantageously ranges from 0.1 to 5.0 mol %, and preferably between 0.5 and 2.5 mol %. A particular embodiment provides for the use of a brazing material which additionally comprises silicon in the range of >0 to 2.5 mol %, and preferably between 0.1 and 0.9 mol %. Furthermore, a brazing material having a further addition of 10 to 40% by volume of Al2TiO5, and preferably between 20 and 30% by volume of Al2TiO5, has proven to be particularly suited for the sealing assembly. The use of the special brazing material composition inside the sealing assembly generally results in reproducibly tight and insulating joints having the following properties: a) escape of brazing material is prevented and running of brazing material is reduced, b) the porosity of the brazing material (primarily individual pores or narrow pore lines) is markedly reduced, c) the brazed joints have sufficient electrical resistance, and d) the brazed joints are generally sufficiently gas-tight (leakage rate during He leakage test

A soft material, flat gasket having a release coating adhered thereto prepared by a process which includes: perparing a release coating composition which is a suspension including: from 69.5 to 93 parts by weight of an oil having a viscosity in excess of 100 m Pa.times.s and a fire point in excess of 230.degree. C., which oil is one of a mineral oil, a nonreactive silicone oil, and a mixture thereof; from 5 to 20 parts by weight of a polytetrafluoroethylene powder which has a particle size of less than 5.mu.; from 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of an aqueous latex; and from 0.5 to 2 parts by weight of a wetting agent; and applying the release coating composition by coating at least a predetermined portion of at least one surface of the soft material, flat gasket therewith. In spite of the notoriously poor bonding capability of PTFE materials, the release coatings produced in this manner exhibit unexpectedly good adhesion to the gasket so that the gaskets do not release PTFE and give off their color when handled, do not loose their non-stick properties when stored over long periods of time, and can be stacked harmlessly on top of one another immediately after application of the coating.
