    摘要: Use of a sealing material which is a multifilament or spun yarn coated with a joint sealing composition to seal a joint in a pipe system in which system a fluid having corrosion inhibitors such as diammonium dimolybdate or benzotriazole; and/or sludge removers; and/or an alcohol such as propane diol, or ethylene glycol; and/or a hydrocarbon such as diesel, including biodiesel, fuel oil, or hydraulic oil; and/or steam at a temperature of at least 180° C. and a pressure of at least 10 bar (1000 kPa); is to be passed through the sealed joint. It is surprising that the sealing materials of the invention can maintain a sealed joint despite exposure to such materials.

    摘要: An impregnated flat gasket useful as a cylinder head gasket for an internal-combustion engine, includes a fiber mat comprised of from about 2 to about 20 weight percent of a synthetic organic fiber; from about 10 to about 70 weight percent of a first inorganic filler which has a grain size having a maximum of 0.01 mm and which has a specific surface area having a maximum of 30 m.sup.2 /g; from about 10 to about 70 weight percent of a second inorganic filler which is composed of particles having a shape which is one of needle-shaped and globular, which has a grain size having a maximum of 0.01 mm and which has a specific surface area ranging from 50 to 350 m.sup.2 /g; from about 0.5 to about 1 weight percent of zinc oxide; and from about 3 to about 10 weight percent of a nitrile butadiene latex. The impregnated fiber mat material can be punched into gasket blanks without problems.

    摘要: A composite gasket material includes a fiber component (3-15% by wt.), an elastomeric binder component (3-15% by wt.), and a solid filer component (60-90% by wt.). The material may additionally include a phenolic or epoxy resin (up to 5 wt. %) and a silicone resin (up to 5 wt. %). The filler includes as a component a salt formed from a multivalent metal cation and a sterically hindered dicarboxylic acid. The salt ingredient typically comprises from about 20 to 80 wt. % of the filler. Gaskets made from this composite material exhibit improved sealability and thermal stability while retaining other desirable mechanical properties. These materials are able to withstand operating temperatures up to about 450.degree. C.
