摘要: Photosensitizing dyes are often used in conjunction with a photoacid generator in holographic recording media. Conventional photosensitizing dyes typically are limited by having an appreciable absorption of light when used in a sufficient concentration, such that the intensity of light decreases significantly with penetration into a recording medium. The present invention discloses a number of new 5-alkynyl substituted napthacene photosensitizing dyes that have low extinction coefficients coupled with good sensitizing properties, such that the problems associated with the photosensitizing dyes absorbing light are significantly reduced.

摘要: A surgical drill assembly is provided that includes an elongate shaft having a proximal end adapted to mate to a driver mechanism, and a distal end having a bone preparation element formed thereon. An elongate, hollow sleeve is coupled to, but slidably disposed around at least a portion of the elongate shaft. The hollow sleeve includes a stepped region that is positioned between proximal and distal portions such that the distal portion has an outer diameter that is less than an outer diameter of the stepped region to allow the distal portion to be disposed within a lumen in a drill guide, and the stepped region to abut the drill guide. In use, the elongate, hollow sleeve is effective to longitudinally align the elongate shaft therein during a surgical procedure. The elongate shaft can also optionally include a stop member that is effective to limit penetration depth of the bone preparation element with respect to the hollow sleeve.

摘要: Instruments and methods are provided for manipulating a bone anchor and a spinal fixation element. The instruments and methods disclosed herein are particularly suited to facilitate rotation of a bone anchor relative to another bone to correct the angular rotation of the vertebrae attached to the bone anchor. The instrument does not require the spinal fixation element to be inserted into the bone anchor prior to manipulation. The instrument further may be used in the insertion of the spinal fixation element into the bone anchor.

摘要: A tissue retractor and guide device for use in securing a spinal fixation plate to a spine is provided. In general, the device includes an elongate member having a guide member formed thereon or mated thereto with at least one pathway for receiving a tool. The guide member is adapted to be juxtapositioned on a spinal implant, while the distal portion of the elongate member is effective to retract tissue disposed adjacent to the guide member.

摘要: Various spinal plating systems for use in treating spinal pathologies are provided. In certain exemplary embodiments, the spinal plating systems can be configured to allow a surgeon to select a bone screw construct having a particular range of motion for attaching a spinal plate to bone as needed based on the intended use. In one exemplary embodiment, the spinal plating system includes a first bone screw that is polyaxially movable relative to the spinal plate, and a second bone screw that has a range of motion that is substantially limited to a single plane.

摘要: A composition includes a siloxane of the formula: (RMe2SiO1/2)a(MeRSiO2/2)b(RSiO3/2)c(SiO4/2)d wherein a is at least 2, b is from 3 to 20, c is from 0 to 10, d is from 0 to 10, and each R is independently of the formula —CR′2—CR′2—Y—Z or CR′2—CR′2—Z, wherein each R′ is independently a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C10 hydrocarbyl free of aliphatic unsaturation so long as at least one R′ is a hydrogen atom, Y is a divalent organic group, and Z is a polycyclic group containing at least one aromatic ring. A method of making the siloxane includes charging (HMe2SiO1/2)a(MeHSiO2/2)b(HSiO3/2)c(SiO4/2)d, a platinum catalyst, and an alkene of the formula CR′2═CR′—Y—Z or CR′2═CR′—Z into a reactor to form the siloxane. The siloxane is useful as a component in holographic storage media for photopolymer-based holographic data storage applications. The siloxane exhibits excellent compatibility when mixed with a polymerizable component before the polymerizable component is cured. Furthermore, the siloxane exhibits excellent diffusion from polymers of the polymerizable component after partial and complete curing. The siloxane also has a high refractive index while maintaining the excellent compatibility and diffusion properties when mixed with polymerizable component.
