摘要: A file may be transferred from one processor-based system to another. The file may include executable binary data together with an integrated digital signature. Each time a receiving processor-based system boots, the digital signature is automatically applied to the payload to ensure its authenticity. If the file is determined during the boot process to be corrupted, it may be automatically deleted and replaced with a predecessor file that may be maintained on the receiving system.

摘要: A system for a clinical lab that is capable of automatically processing, including sorting, of multiple specimen containers. The system comprises a central controller, a workstation, one or more analyzers, and an automated centrifuge. The workstation has automatic detectors for detecting the presence of a holder holding specimen containers. The workstation has a bar code reader for reading bar codes on the containers. The system has a transport subsystem, preferably a workstation robotic arm and an analyzer robotic arm for transporting the specimen containers, moving them to and from the workstation, to and from the analyzers, and to and from the centrifuge. The centrifuge is loaded with buckets containing specimen containers. The workstation can be provided with a balance system for balancing the weight of the buckets used. The workstation can also have a decapper for automatically removing caps from the specimen containers.

摘要: A system and method is provided for the collection and automate dispatching of assignments and news from a teacher to their students and parents. This involves registering members and assigning them roles, scopes and groups based on scheduling and other data pulled from the school/district's database, capturing assignment data from the teacher or student assistant through a web form, constructing custom homepages and assignment messages for each student and parents, and transmitting those messages to the right parties. Additionally, a system and method for relationship-based messaging between members to facilitate communication made difficult or impossible in a traditional school environment. This involves assigning roles and defining the relationships between those roles (factoring in scheduling information), granting and limiting publishing scope based on the same, and providing a system for web messaging and email distribution. Finally, a system and method for creating student digital portfolios. This involves aggregating information already published to the system along with grades and attendance information pulled from the SIS, student work submitted through digital dropboxes, plans and comments from teachers and staff, membership data, and school participation data as expressed through membership and messaging through the system. This information is available on a single web page accessed through directories, rosters and special groups by school and district staff.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method of fabricating optical devices and in particular to a method of fabricating integrated opto-electronic devices, and to an opto-electronic device. A plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition process (PECVD) is used to deposit an optical device integrated in silicon onto an electronic device fabricated in silicon. Relatively low temperatures are utilized and, in order to reduce losses of a waveguide in the optical device in the wavelength range 1.50 to 1.53 .mu.m, the deposition process is carried out in the absence of nitrogen. An optical device is disclosed which comprises an integrated construction incorporating an optical waveguide in silica and a photonic transducer in silicon.
