摘要： The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display including: a lower electrode including a unit pixel electrode; an upper electrode including an upper unit electrode facing the unit pixel electrode; and a liquid crystal layer between the lower electrode and the upper electrode and including a plurality of liquid crystal molecules aligned approximately perpendicular to the surfaces of the lower electrode and the upper electrode in the absence of an electric field, wherein the unit pixel electrode includes a stem forming a boundary between a plurality of sub-regions and a plurality of minute branches extending in different directions in two different sub-regions, the upper unit electrode includes an opening facing the stem and extending parallel to the stem, any alignment aid to pretilt the liquid crystal molecules is absent, and a length of the minute branches is equal to or less than about 53 μm.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device includes: first and second substrates facing each other and including a plurality of pixels; a liquid crystal layer between the first and second substrates and including a liquid crystal mixture. The first substrate includes a pixel electrode in each pixel. The pixel electrode includes a stem electrode extending in a first direction and a second direction in a cross shape and dividing the pixel into first to fourth domains; and branch electrodes disposed in the first to fourth domains and extending from the stem electrode in a tilted direction to the first and second directions. The branch electrodes disposed in two adjacent domains extend to have angles different from each other with respect to the first direction and the second direction. The liquid crystal mixture includes liquid crystals, and a dopant which adjusts a pitch of the liquid crystals.

The first subpixel electrode includes a first plate portion, a first stem having a cross portion extending from the first plate portion and a protrusion extending from the cross portion, and a plurality of first branches extending from the first plate portion and the first stem. The second subpixel electrode includes a second plate portion having an opening and a plurality of second branches extending from the second plate portion. The cross portion does not overlap with the second plate portion. The protrusion overlaps with the second plate portion.
