Abstract: A method includes: providing a plate-like glass element having side faces and an ultrashort pulse laser having a laser beam; directing the laser beam onto one of the side faces; concentrating the laser beam by focusing optics to form an elongated focus in the glass element; producing a filament-shaped flaw in a volume of the glass element by a radiated-in energy of the laser beam, a longitudinal direction of which runs transverse to one of the side faces, and the ultrashort pulse laser radiates in a pulse or a pulse packet having at least two successive laser pulses to produce the filament-shaped flaw; widening the filament-shaped flaw to form a channel by exposing the glass element to an etching including an etching medium which removes glass at a rate of less than 8 μm per hour; and introducing rounded, hemispherical depressions in a wall of the channel by the etching.

Abstract: A method is provided for scoring glasses. The method includes the steps of generating a deep crack in the glass along an intended separation line by exerting pressure onto the glass surface using a rigid scoring tool, wherein the scoring tool, by being pressed against the glass surface and due to the advancement force while introducing the deep crack generates a zone of elastic strain in the glass in a direction along the glass surface and perpendicular to the separation line, which extends in an arc in the plane defined by the separation line perpendicular to the glass surface such that one leg of the arc is located close to the contact point of the scoring tool on the glass surface and another leg is located inside the glass. The arc being open towards the advancement/advancement direction of the scoring tool.

Abstract: A method for winding up a glass ribbon is provided, in which, prior to winding up the glass ribbon, the two surfaces of the glass ribbon are each initially treated with a water-containing medium and subsequently dried so as to produce a defined content of water molecules on the two surfaces, by achieving a saturation of the surfaces of the glass ribbon with water, without bringing about an excess of water molecules. A glass roll is produced in which the electrostatic charge of the glass surface is reduced and, as a result, any undesired excess adherence of the glass surface to an interleaf material is prevented and, in this way, glass breakage, in particular during winding up and/or unwinding of the glass roll, can be markedly reduced.

Abstract: A packaging unit for a glass wound on a winding shaft includes a transport unit with a mounting support for the winding core which has a transport unit interior part and a transport unit exterior part. The transport unit interior part includes a floor element and side elements. The transport unit exterior part includes a floor element, side elements and a cover element. The mounting support for the winding core is always connected with or formed by two side elements of the transport unit interior part which are located opposite each other. The transport unit interior part is spaced apart from the transport unit exterior part in a floor region by spring elements, so that the transport unit interior part is arranged vibration-decoupled from the transport unit exterior part. A method of utilizing a transport unit for packaging a glass that is wound on a winding core is also disclosed.
