摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a disk device and a method of controlling the device which is capable of suppressing peak current, even for serial communication, that is required when initiating rotation of a spindle motor down to a level equivalent to that of parallel communication, without prolonging elapsed time before reaching the steady rotation speed. In one embodiment, an HDD includes a serial communication circuit which executes serial communication with a host, an SPM which rotates a disk, an HDC/MPU which controls the SPM and the serial communication circuit. The HDC/MPU, after shutting down the serial communication circuit once, starts up the serial communication circuit again when rotation speed of the SPM reached the specified standard value, and establishes serial communication with the host by means of the serial communication circuit.

摘要: The present invention solves a problem that useless or wasted space exists on a data recording disk between read/write heads of narrower head width than others in the case that an uniform track pitch is used, and a head width of each head varies due to a fabrication tolerance. A data recording disk of the present invention comprises a first data recording surface and a second data recording surface, and a track pitch of adjacent data recording tracks of the first data recording surface differs from a track pitch of adjacent data recording tracks of the second data recording surface. All data recording tracks of the first data recording surface have substantially the same track width, and all gaps of the first data recording surface have substantially the same gap width, and, all data recording tracks of the second data recording surface have substantially the same track width, and all gaps of the second data recording surface have substantially the same gap width.

摘要: A highly accurate electronic timepiece is provided in which the operation of a logical slowdown/speedup circuit for adjusting accuracy is controlled by a CPU. The output of an oscillation circuit is input to a system clock generation circuit which generates a system clock for operating the CPU. The output of an oscillation circuit is also supplied to a frequency dividing circuit, and an output of the frequency dividing circuit is supplied to an interrupt signal generating circuit to generate an interrupt signal to the CPU. A logical slowdown/speedup circuit increments a logical slowdown/speedup cycle counter allocated in RAM upon each interrupt operation and, when a predetermined count is reached, the logical slowdown/speedup circuit operates to adjust the timekeeping accuracy of the timepiece. Slowdown/speedup data stored in the logical slowdown/speedup circuit is acquired from a slowdown/speedup data input port. The logical slowdown/speedup circuit operates at two different cycles to perform accuracy adjustment.

摘要: A method and apparatus for accurately positioning the magnetic head of disk drives is disclosed. A recording medium is provided having two radial data structures formed thereon. Each radial data structure includes two parallel and adjacent data burst pattern trains. The first burst pattern is defined by a first side centrally aligned with a concentric data track and a second side opposed to the first side and centrally aligned with an adjacent concentric data track. The third burst pattern is defined by a third side spaced apart from the first side of the first burst pattern by a distance not greater than the read width of a magnetic head and a fourth side opposed to the third side and spaced apart from the second side by a distance not greater than the read width. The first radial data structure generates a first signal for positioning the magnetic head relative to the recording medium. The second radial data structure, parallel and offset from the first data structure, generates a second head position signal. Thus, the second head position signal is detected before the first head position signal becomes undetectable.

摘要: A stepping motor control circuit includes a rotation detection circuit that detects an induced signal and detects whether or not the induced signal exceeds a predetermined reference threshold voltage in a detection segment having a plurality of detection areas, and a control unit that determines the state of rotation of a stepping motor on the basis of a pattern indicating whether or not the induced signals exceed the reference threshold voltage and, on the basis of the result of detection, controls the driving of the stepping motor with anyone of a plurality of main drive pulses different from each other in energy or a correction drive pulse having larger energy than the main drive pulse. An ineffective area is provided between at least the two detection areas, and the control unit determines the state of rotation of the stepping motor without considering the induced signal.

摘要: A display device and an image forming apparatus capable of reducing discomfort of a worker during maintenance work and improving the work efficiency, are provided. In a copier, an orientation of a display screen of a display device is detected and when the display screen changes its orientation, an image appearing on the display screen changes accordingly. It is determined how the copier is viewed from a worker, and then screen display is performed so that an image appearing on the display device looks the same as the copier which the worker directly sees.
