Abstract: A base station of a cellular radio communications network configured to operate in an unlicensed radio band, comprising a radio transceiver connected to an antenna, and a controller including a processor and a memory holding computer program code. The processor is configured to execute the computer program code to realize a machine for determining a size for a contention window, within which the base station may transmit data from the transceiver to a radio terminal operating in the network; receiving a signal from the terminal, comprising an indication of occupancy of a radio channel, as detected by the terminal; adjusting the contention window size dependent on the indication of occupancy of the radio channel; transmitting data to the terminal within the adjusted contention window.

Abstract: A node (100) of a cellular network selects a first modulation scheme setting for a first radio link to a first device (10′). The first modulation scheme setting is selected from a set of modulation scheme settings, each identified by at least one corresponding index. On the basis of a mapping of each of the indices to a corresponding set of transmission parameters, the node (100) identifies a first set of link parameters mapped to the index corresponding to the selected first modulation scheme setting. The node (100) then configures the first radio link according to the identified first set of link parameters. Further, the node (100) selects a second modulation scheme setting for a second radio link to a second device (10).

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed for determining dynamic positioning of mobile cells. Dynamic positioning provides for navigating a mobile cell, such as an unmanned aerial vehicle or the like, to a location suitable for offloading current network traffic, such that the suitable location maximizes offloading capabilities. The methodology describes takes into account both the current traffic load on the network and the location of the highest system capacity-intensive mobile terminals in determining an initial position for deploying the mobile cell. Additionally, the location of the deployed mobile cell is optimized, over time, based on tracking the direction of movement of the highest capacity-intensive mobile terminals, and, in some embodiments, service quality indicators provided by the mobile terminals and/or contextual information captured by the mobile cell apparatus.

Abstract: Multi-beam multiplexing in mobile radio communication networks, specifically for initial network access transmissions, such as Random Access Channel (RACH) transmissions and other initial network access signals that affect the operation of the Random Access operation. A network node is configured to distribute, simultaneously, a plurality of beams across a predetermined coverage area. Each of the beams are associated with a different coverage area. In addition, a plurality of sub-carriers are precoded in an OFDM modulated signal, which includes control information, for the purpose of shaping (i.e., beamforming) each of the plurality of beams. In this regard, one or more sub-carriers are mapped to a beam.
