The invention provides a method for maximization of artemisinin yield of the plant Artemisia annua, said method comprising sowing seeds of Artemisia annua plant on raised bed nursery during second and third week of December and maintaining the moisture throughout; transplanting seedlings thus obtained bearing at least 5-15 leaves into the main field fertilized with fertilizer, preferably NPK @ 80,40,40 kg/ha to achieve a population density of 50,000 to 200,000 per ha followed by light irrigation in the second week of March and irrigation every fortnight thereafter; harvesting the crop four times by cutting the plant tops leaving 75-100 cm part of plant for further regeneration, the said harvests are performed in a manner that the first harvest is done in fourth week of May, second harvest in third week of July, third harvest in second week of September and fourth harvest in third week of October of each year; and at each harvesting time care is taken to care at least one green branch, and extracting artemisinin from the plant tissue immediately after each harvest.

The invention relates to a new use of a non-alkaloid compound that is plant derived glycoside ‘glycyrrhizin’ as a highly potent bio-enhancer of activity and availability of antibiotics and other drugs including anti-infective and anticancer agents. The molecule of invention facilitates the absorption/uptake of antibiotics and other molecules across the cell membrane in plant and animal cells as well as Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and therefore can be used as a drug facilitator or bioenhancer molecule to increase the affectivity of drugs and nutraceutical agents. The compound having no antimicrobial or cytotoxic activity of its own, is a safe candidate to reduce the drug dosage towards circumventing the problem of drug resistance and the other side effects in anti-infective and anti-cancer therapies.

The invention relates to a new, distinct and unique plant of rose scented geranium Pelargonium graveolens ‘Safal’ derived from a rare seed-set in cultivar ‘Bipuli,’ apparently the result of hybridization between largely sterile populations of the cultivar accessions ‘Bipuli’ and ‘Hemanti’, possessing the following combination of characteristics namely demonstrated vigour in the essential oil yield related traits in great measure and out yielded all the other accessions; the essential oil of the plant has 89% rhodinol content in which citronellol to geraniol ratio is approximately 1:1 and the contents of isomenthone, menthone, 10-epi-&ggr;-eudesmol, 6,9-guaiadiene, decanoic acid and isodecanoic acid were relatively lower than in the oils of accessions ‘Bipuli’ and/or ‘Hemanti’, this plant can be propagated vegetatively through stem cuttings and suitable for commercial cultivation in large scale.

This invention relates to a new and distinct mint plant of Mentha arvensis ‘Saksham’, developed through tissue culture, possessing the following combination of characters namely producing higher amount of menthol with high essential oil yield as well as herbage yield; possessing better growth and vegetative growth with high regenerability; has distinct molecular profile by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD); retains the characteristics of tolerance to leaf spot, rust and powdery mildew as in the parent variety ‘Himalaya’; has light greenish leaves, pinkish white flowers like the parent plant ‘Himalaya’, this new plant is able to produce higher herbage, oil and menthol yield per unit area as compared to other existing improved varieties.

The present invention relates to a cultivar of Phyllanthus amarus ‘CIM-Jeevan’, producing high amount of herb, phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin, wherein said cultivar is developed through γ-irradiation of superior germplasm, the said plant produces high amount of herbage yield ranging between 1.0-1.15 kg per sqm fresh total plant herb, possesses high vegetative erect growth with a height ranging between 60 to 65 cm, produces phyllanthin ranging between 0.70-0.77% in dry herb, produces hypophyllanthin ranging between 0.32-0.37% in dry herb, and shows seed germination of about 90%.
