Abstract: Compositions for treatment of cystinosis, products for administering eye drops, and products for storing contact lenses are provided. Compositions include solutions that can contain an effective amount of cysteamine to treat cystinosis, and an oil with a lower density than the solution. Also provided is a product including a bottle for containing a solution, the bottle being substantially free of O2. Also provided is a contact lens holder for storing one or more contact lenses in a solution, the holder including barrier layers reducing the amount of O2 entering the contact lens holder.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a composition comprising a biologically active agent; a base oil; an additional oil that is soluble in the base oil with a partition coefficient for the biologically active molecule that is at least twice that of the base oil; where the base oil and the additional oil are present in the composition in an amount effective to reduce the amount of the biologically active agent in an aqueous phase to less than 80 wt % of the amount with just the base oil present in an otherwise identical composition at the same total oil loading; a non-ionic surfactant; and water.

Abstract: In general, the disclosure relates to methods and compositions for preparing colorants useful for preparing pigmented hydrogels. The disclosure further relates to pigmented hydrogels comprising the disclosed colorants. In some instances, the colorant is an alcohol extract of an agro-material, such as turmeric, paprika, spinach, and/or woad or the colorants comprise one or more of: a carotenoid, chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b, a curcumoid, or indigorubin. Alternatively, the colorant can be carbon black. The disclosure further relates to contact lenses comprising the disclosed pigmented hydrogels.

Abstract: UV absorbing appliances, such as contact lenses, are prepared by including at least one UV absorbing compound in the appliances. UV absorbing compounds can be water insoluble and/or reside in UV absorbing nanoparticles having a mean diameter less than 10 nm. The UV absorbing nanoparticles incorporate into an appliance by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing the UV absorbing nanoparticles to form an appliance comprising the UV absorbing nanoparticles. The UV absorbing compounds or the UV absorbing nanoparticles incorporate into an appliance by placing the appliance in a solution of the UV absorbing compound or a dispersion of the UV absorbing nanoparticles in a non-aqueous solvent that swells the appliance. The UV absorbing compound or the UV absorbing nanoparticles infuse into the swollen appliance and are retained within the appliance upon removal of the non-aqueous solvent.
