Abstract:
Container erection apparatus is provided which automatically erects a blank of cardboard or the like to form a container which can be changed from a transit state to a display state, even when containing its intended contents, by folding two parts of the container about a crease, the folding crease in a surface (the folding surface) thereof which is planar while the container is in the transit state so that the parts of said surface on either side of the crease come together. The apparatus erects the blank in such a manner that it leaves the apparatus in the display state, entirely ready for filling in a later piece of apparatus or manually. To this end, the apparatus is arranged to cause the said parts of the folding surface to pivot towards one another about the folding crease in such a manner that the crease moves upwardly and that end surface portions of the blank move inwardly towards one another and remain substantially horizontal during such movement. The partly-erected blank is then moved downwardly through a die to erect edge parts of said end surface portions to form end tray parts of the container.
Abstract:
A machine for forming from a one-piece flat carton blank a carton suitable for packaging biscuits and the like, which carton can be folded between transit and display positions and which is normally shrink-wrapped for transit purposes, which shrink-wrapping can be removed to allow the carton to be folded into its display position for use in supermarkets, the machine including a frame, support means for supporting the blank at a first folding station and folding means at said station for partially forming the blank into a carton and transferring it to a second folding station at which second folding means complete the erection of the carton, the first folding operation causing carton divider panels to be folded into back to back relationship and the second folding operation folding up side, end and glue flaps so that the carton is in a display position ready for filling, whereupon it can subsequently be folded to a transit position ready for shrink-wrapping.
Abstract:
A method of forming a flower pot or a flower pot cover is provided. The method includes the step of providing a sheet of material having an upper surface and a lower surface with at least one of the upper and lower surfaces being a bondably connectable surface. The sheet of material has a label area which has information related to a floral grouping displayed thereon. The method further includes forming the sheet of material into a base having a closed lower end, an open upper end, and an object opening extending through the open upper end and dimensioned to receive a flower pot in which the floral grouping is disposed. The base is formed to have a plurality of overlapping folds that are bondably connected so as to retain the base in a predetermined shape with the information on the label area being viewable when the flower pot is disposed in the object opening.
Abstract:
An article forming system for forming at least one sheet of material into an article, such as a decorative flower pot cover for example, and a novel article formed utilizing such a system. The article forming system includes a male die, a female die and a platform having a support surface and an opening extending through the support surface. The female die is disposed generally within the opening in the platform with the upper end of the female die being disposed near the support surface. The article forming system includes means for slidingly holding portions of the sheet of material generally against portions of the support surface while permitting such held portions to slide on the support surface during the forming of the article for cooperating in forming a decorative border on the decorative flower pot cover type of article which flares generally away from the flower pot object when the decorative flower pot cover article is applied to the flower pot. The article formed in accordance with the present invention includes overlapping folds formed by overlapping portions of the sheet of material to bring portions of the sheet of material into bondable contact, the overlapping folds providing the mechanical strength necessary for the formed sheet of material to hold a predetermined shape thereby permitting the utilization of thinner sheets of material to form articles.
