Abstract:
Device used to free a vehicle that is stuck in terrain or to reduce such risk through the use of an additional tread disposed parallel to each wheel of the vehicle. The additional tread can be an air chamber (2 or 10a and 10b) covered or not with a tire (11) or a band comprising different coupling profiles (13, 14 or 15). The tread is mounted onto an anti-sink rim comprising a conical profile (1.2) and a flange (1.1) centered in and applied against the outer side of the wheel disc by special bolts (6) inserted in respective openings in the flange and rim. The diameter of the system is smaller than that of the wheel to facilitate mounting and to avoid interference with the vehicle body. The conical shape of the rim profile (1.2) lends stiffness and enables the rims to be stacked for reduced storage volume in trunk.
Abstract:
A method for producing designs involves receiving a request to create a design on the surface of an extraterrestrial body, transmitting a control signal to a device on a vehicle on the extraterrestrial body, the control signal causing the device to create the design, and receiving an image signal providing an image of the design created on the surface. A device for producing the designs includes a surface altering tool configured to rearrange material on the surface. The tool may be provided as a configurable-tread rover wheel that includes a wheel hub having radially-extending channels, and tread elements supported in the channels that are selectively articulatable under the control of a control module to form a tread pattern corresponding to a design intended to be produced. The tread elements may be selectively extended or retracted by operation of an array of solenoids controlled by the control module.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a foldable wheel which can greatly reduce its size and be carried conveniently, comprising: an extendable hub including a first end and a second end, wherein the distance between the first end and the second end may be changed by adjusting the extendable hub; a plurality of extendable spokes each including a first extendable portion and a second extendable portion, wherein the first extendable portion connects with the first end of the extendable hub and the second extendable portion connects with the second end of the extendable hub, and the first extendable portion connects with the second extendable portion by a first connector; and a plurality of the second connectors connected with the plurality of extendable spokes for connecting to a rim.
Abstract:
A fluid levitating caster lifts a heavy load “(17)” off a floor “(18)” with near friction-less-ness for transport has integrated a load lifting device. This extra rise height “(ER)” lifting feature accommodates moving loads “(17)” which have flexible-sagging frames, over uneven floors “(18)”, and which have frames that are not parallel to floor “(18)”. An inflatable bellows “(22)” design of the load lifting device receives its pressurization from fluid levitating caster, and additionally serves as a dampening reservoir to reduce hopping-pressure surges inherent in fluid levitating casters.
Abstract:
To provide a railroad car design that allows the car to travel at high speeds over current roadbeds at very low fuel costs per mile a special rail is formed. This rail has the form of a wave shaped on its top with the troughs and crests of the wave repeating themselves every several feet apart continuously down both tracks for the whole distance of the railroad. When a wheel of this multi-wheeled car comes over the crest of a wave it has encountered as it moves down this wave formed track, the wheel immediately begins supporting its computer calculated portion of the weight of the car on a cushion of air pressure forced into its supporting air cylinder at that moment and rolls down the face of the wave in its desired direction of travel. Upon reaching the bottom of the wave's trough and starting to roll up the up hill portion of the wave form, the wheel is pushed back up into its supporting air cylinder thus expelling the trapped air by the upgrade created as the track shade ascends back up out of its trough to form the next wave crest. To stop the car, the trapped air pressure in the extended air cylinder is not allowed to exit its cylinder as fast as it normally would as each wheel is retracting on the upgrade out of its wave's trough.
Abstract:
An expandable wheel assemble for toy vehicles includes an axle, a first hub fixed to the axle, a second hub supported by the axle, and at least one web that spans between and is joined to the hubs, and has a central portion movable outwardly from the axle due to centrifugal force when the wheel assembly is rotated.
Abstract:
A transformable wheel assembly includes a spoke frame and a central gear coupled to the spoke frame. A plurality of legs are pivotably coupled to the spoke frame. The plurality of legs include an arcuate outer surface and an arcuate distal interior edge. A plurality of leg teeth are formed on the arcuate distal interior edge. The leg teeth engage the central gear such that the central gear drives the plurality of legs between a closed position and an open position based on a direction of rotation of the central gear.
