    Abstract: A blind rivet design has an exposed mandrel portion modified from the conventional and standardized mandrel to reduce amount and cost of materials required to produce the mandrel, while also minimizing costs related to production, use, and spent mandrel disposal, all while still making use of conventional riveting tools for rivet setting and maintaining rivet performance. To work with the inventive blind rivet design, a conventional riveting tool, i.e., a rivet gun with a replaceable nosepiece, may be utilized, with a modified nose housing attached. The replaceable nosepiece and modified nose housing on the conventional rivet setting tool enables use of a mandrel having a reduced exposed mandrel portion relative to conventional and standardized mandrels. In addition, a modified stepped approach to setting the rivet may also be utilized in conjunction with the inventive rivet design to enable use of an even further reduced exposed mandrel portion.

    Abstract: A blind fastener includes a sleeve defining a sleeve central axis and having a sleeve shank having a distal end portion and a proximal end portion axially opposed from the distal end portion and a stop connected to the distal end portion of the sleeve shank.     Abstract: A blind rivet element includes a setting head attached to one head of a shank that is smaller in diameter than the setting head and has an opposite end with an internal female thread or a receptacle for a threaded bolt as well as a deformation section disposed axially therebetween. The blind rivet is inelastically deformed from an unset condition to a set condition thereby forming a radially outwardly protruding bead which serves to fasten the blind rivet element to a workpiece. The deformation section includes a void that interrupts the bead and defines a non-arcuate edge along that portion of the bead disposed adjacent to the void.

    Abstract: A blind fastener including a core bolt having a shank with a head and a threaded portion, and a sleeve having an elongated body with a head, an internal threaded portion, and a tapered notch formed within an exterior surface thereof and defined by a tapered portion having a slope and a frictional enhanced surface. The core bolt is installed within the sleeve such that its threaded portion engages threadedly the internal threaded portion of the sleeve. During installation of the fastener within the plurality of workpieces, a bulb is formed on the elongated body of the sleeve, the bulb defining a portion of a bulbed portion. When a selected axial force is reached, the bulbed portion separates from the elongated body and engages axially the tapered portion of the sleeve, increasing the diameter of the bulb which engages a blind side of one of the workpieces.
