    摘要: A circuit protection device that can be incorporated into a coaxial cable connector for protecting the circuit from a voltage transient, comprises an annulus 11 that has a central aperture for receiving a central conductor, e.g. pin, of the connector. The annulus is electrically insulating and has a central electrode (12) for connection to the connector pin and a peripheral electrode (14) for connection to the connector housing and the coaxial cable screen. A portion of the electrodes overlie each other and are separated from each other by a layer of semiconductor switching material (16). For example, a chalcogenide glass switching material (16) may be evaporated onto a small projecting area (15) of the central electrode, followed by a small circular area (17) of copper, and the deposited copper area (17) may be wire bonded to the rest of the peripheral electrode (14) by wire bridge (18). In use, the switching material (16) will immediately change to a low resistance state when the coaxial cable is subjected to a voltage transient in order to protect the circuit, and will then revert to its high resistance state.

    摘要: A DC block RF device includes a housing defining a cavity having a central axis, an input conductor disposed in the cavity of the housing and extending substantially along the central axis of the cavity and an output conductor disposed in the cavity of the housing and extending substantially along the central axis of the cavity. The DC block RF device further includes a first capacitor connected to the input conductor and a second capacitor connected to the output conductor and the first capacitor. In addition, the DC block RF device includes a coil for grounding surge signals, the coil having an inner edge connected to the center conductor and an outer edge connected to the housing of the device. During a surge, the first capacitor is configured to arc the surge across the capacitor without damaging the capacitor so the surge can dissipate through coil to ground.

    摘要: A protective device for transmitting electromagnetic signals includes an inner conductor that extends coaxially within an outer conductor. To compensate for dimensional tolerances without compromising performance, inner conductor is constructed to include a center pin with a conical end, a plunger pin slidably disposed within an axial bore in the center pin, the plunger pin including a conical end located outside the center pin, and a resilient, expandable, conductive band coaxially mounted onto the conical ends of the center and plunger pins. A gas discharge tube is conductively coupled between the inner and outer conductors to discharge transient voltages transmitted along the inner conductor. To minimize disturbance to the transmission line, the width of the gas discharge tube in the region of contact with the inner conductor is preferably equal to the diameter of the inner conductor. Additionally, the gas discharge tube is preferably greater in length than in width.

    摘要: A connector (200), such as but not limited to a coaxial female F-connector, has an integral surge protector. The F-connector includes a connector body (220) with an extended center conductor lead (215). Attached to the F-connector and substantially surrounding the lead is an inductor, such as a toroid core (300) having windings (315) thereon. In one configuration one end (320) of the windings is attached to the center conductor lead and the other end (325) is attached to an electrical ground. In another configuration that other end is attached to a circuit ground via a capacitor, a power supply, or a biasing circuit. The inductor serves to shunt a surge to ground. A series capacitor is connected between the center conductor lead and an input/output port on an electronic circuit, passes the desired signal, and further helps to prevent a surge from reaching the device.
