摘要: A magnetic flowmeter in which a pair of metering electrodes is disposed at diametrically opposed points in a flow tube through which flows the fluid to be measured, a magnetic field being established at right angles to the direction of flow by an excitation winding. The winding is energized by a cyclical voltage derived from an a-c power line, the polarity of the cyclical voltage being reversed at a rate which is a sub-multiple of the line frequency whereby each interval between successive points of reversal contains the same number of full cycles and the polarity of the last half cycle in each interval is the same as the first half cycle in the succeeding interval. The arrangement is such as to cancel error voltage components resulting from line frequency disturbances.

摘要: An apparatus for dispensing a selected grade of motor fuel (each grade having a different octane rating) has an array of operating pushbuttons a selected one of which may be actuated (the selection being made according to the grade of fuel desired) to start the dispensing operation. Upon the actuation of a pushbutton, certain instrumentalities in the apparatus are energized or released to (among other things) select gearing in the apparatus appropriate to the grade selected, reset the counter or register to zero, set a control valve to a predetermined position, and start up the pump to cause the dispensing of fuel to begin. All of these functions are performed automatically, i.e., without any further human intervention, once the pushbutton has been actuated. Upon the termination of the actual dispensing, electrical instrumentalities are automatically activated to carry out certain resetting operations, prior to the next dispensing operation. The dispensing apparatus is particularly suitable for a self-service type of operation.

摘要: There is disclosed herein an electronic monitoring system for pipelines and the like utilizing counting techniques for determining the difference between fluid volume supplied into a pipeline and the fluid volume removed from the pipeline. An error factor is employed and, based upon the volume difference, provides compensation for normal difference between the input and output volume measuring devices. This error factor then compensates for the normal difference between input and output volume. Abnormal deviations can then be detected to determine fluid leaks and the like for actuating alarm and control circuits for providing an alarm and/or terminating fluid flow in the pipeline system. There is also disclosed herein the manner in which the present electronic system can be utilized for monitoring a pipeline system with multiple input meters or outputs meters. There is also disclosed herein methods for precisely determining the normal difference between input and output meters.

摘要: A system is disclosed for metering the flow of gas which includes a pressure-control regulator through which gas flows from the supply line to an intermediate line, and a metering regulator through which the gas flows from the intermediate line to the discharge line. The gas pressure in the supply line varies, but is always greater than that in the discharge line which must be maintained constant. The pressure-control regulator maintains a predetermined intermediate pressure in the intermediate line, i.e., a pressure somewhat higher than the pressure in the discharge line. The metering regulator has a valve element, the position of which is moved between its fully closed and fully open positions to control the rate of gas flow through the metering regulator and thereby maintain the predetermined pressure in the discharge line. An electrical transducer is coupled to the movable valve element and transmits an electrical signal to an electrical integrator and recording system. The transducer electrical signal is a function of the position of the movable valve element, and is indicative of the rate at which gas is flowing through the metering regulator. That signal is combined with time by the integrator and recording system to produce a readout of the total volume of gas supplied through the discharge line.
