    摘要: Radio frequency power for melting, sealing and welding plastic tubing compressed between a pair of manually or automatically actuated electrically conducting jaws of a hand held or fixed base tubing sealer is regulated by a pulse width modulator controlling the duty cycle of applied constant voltage pulses. A predetermined change of impedance of the tubing during compression and melting is detected to regulate the power applied and to ensure a weld of predetermined physical parameters. On completion of the weld, a first timer is reset and a further weld may be made. In the event of impedance mismatch, a second timer inhibits further application of power and resetting of the first timer. The use of the pulse width modulator enhances conservation of power and accommodates portability of the tubing sealer through use of rechargeable batteries as the power source.

    摘要: An apparatus for use in sealing layers of thermoplastic material together from one side of the layers includes a heat sealing electrode having a first conductive element mounted on a support and adapted to be connected to a source of high frequency energy, and a second conductive element mounted on the same support but in spaced general parallel relation to the first conductive element and adapted to be connected to an electrical ground. The conductive elements are electrically insulated from each other and, when they are applied to one side of the thermoplastic sheet material to be sealed and high frequency energy is supplied to the first electrode, a seal is formed in the material beneath and between the ends of the electrode elements.

    摘要: A bookbinding machine wherein stacks of signatures are transported by the holders of an endless conveyor which moves the stacks seriatim along a paster. The paster coats the backs of successive stacks with wet adhesive and the stacks are thereupon transported through a heating zone where the adhesive is heated in the space between two elongated electrodes of a high-frequency heater. A pipe which extends along the path of stacks in the region of one of the electrodes has orifices which discharge streamlets of preheated air across the path of holders to impinge against successive stacks and to thus prevent scorching of signatures by heat which is generated by the high-frequency heater. The rate of flow of air through the orifices of the pipe is adjustable, and such rate preferably increases in the direction of forward movement of the holders.

    摘要: A movable support, such as a cart or dolly moves along a continuous production line path, preferably in a closed loop. Each cart carries a pair of spaced essentially parallel plates, between which the structure to be heated dielectrically is to be placed. The plates are connected to a non-contacting electric RF energy coupler, such as a pair of spaced coils, between which another coil is movable, the other coil being connected over a movable arm to an RF generator. As the carts move along the path, the arm carrying the coil connected to the generator is engaged by a cart. Its coil matches with the coils carried by the cart, and is moved synchronously therewith for a predetermined period of time during which energy is transferred from the generator to the plates. To provide for uniform voltage distribution on the plates, tuning stubs or lines, preferably with a movable short circuit, are connected to the plates at suitable locations.

The microwave devices, in one embodiment, include a plurality of metal rods, each having a length that is a multiple of a half wavelength with respect to the microwave energy within the oven. The microwave devices effectively transform the microwave energy into thermal energy in which form the energy causes the browning of the food contained therein.
