Abstract: Systems and methods are described for routing data traffic based on network conditions. Network conditions for a communication network may be monitored, where the communication network comprises a first access node and a second access node that are in communication using a first communication link and a second communication link. The monitored network conditions may include at least a utilization of the second communication link. It may be determined that the network conditions meet a criteria. A first classification may be assigned to a message when it is determined that the network conditions meet the criteria. The first access node may be instructed to transmit the message over the first communication link based on the first classification when the network conditions meet the criteria and to transmit the message over the second communication link when the network conditions fail to meet the criteria.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for sub-band selection for a wireless device during connection. An access node may receive a RACH preamble message from a wireless device. It may be determined that a received signal level associated with the message does not meet a signal level criteria. The wireless device may be instructed to transmit signal information to the access node. A sub-band that comprises a signal level that meets the signal level criteria may be selected. The wireless device may then be instructed to communicate with the access node using the selected sub-band when requesting a connection.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining candidates for handover of wireless devices in a wireless network. A first access node in communication with one or more wireless devices may receive signal information for second access nodes from the wireless devices. A communication link between the first access node and each second access node may be used to transmit second access node network characteristics to the first access node. The first access node may store information about second access nodes in a neighbor relation table. If a removal condition is satisfied, one or more second access nodes may be removed from the first access node neighbor relation table and may be blacklisted. Blacklisted second access nodes may be monitored for improvements in signal information or network characteristics. Improved second access nodes may be removed from the blacklist based on a comparison with threshold values for signal information and network characteristics.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for controlling a reference signal mode to facilitate beamforming. A load amount for reference signals from one or more wireless devices in communication with an access node is determined and compared with load level criteria. When the load amount meets or exceeds the load level criteria, the one or more wireless devices are directed to transmit reference signals using a subband mode of transmission. A subband quality is determined for a plurality of subbands available for the one or more wireless devices and a subband for reference signal transmission is selected from the plurality of subbands based on channel quality criteria. Wireless transmission, such as from an access node, to the one or more wireless devices is scheduled utilizing beamforming based on the reference signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining latency in a communication network. A non-IP protocol physical interface may be implemented at an access node. The physical interface may be configured to receive a simulated wireless device that mimics a radio-frequency interface. Delay data associated with segmented portions of a backhaul of the communication network may be measured at a base band unit (BBU) of the access node using the simulated wireless device. At least one segment of the backhaul may be isolated based on the measured delay data associated with the segmented portions.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for adjusting a sleep schedule of a wireless device in a wireless network. A mobility of a wireless device may be determined to exceed a threshold mobility. The wireless device may be operating in a sleep mode with a discontinuous reception schedule having listening intervals separated by sleep periods. A source access node may request to handover the wireless device to a target access node and may provide information to the target access node regarding the determined mobility and the determined sleep mode before handover completion. The target access node may then initiate wireless communication with the wireless device during a listening interval previously scheduled by the source access node. After the initial communication with the target access node, the wireless device may resume the previously determined sleep mode in order to optimize power use of the wireless device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for limiting carrier aggregation for a wireless device are provided. A high mobility wireless device can be identified based on a number of carrier aggregation messages provided for the high mobility wireless device. An access node can receive a wireless device ID associated with the high mobility wireless device. The access node can obtain a wireless device ID from a wireless device being served by the access node. The wireless device ID of the served wireless device is compared with the wireless device ID of the high mobility wireless device. Carrier aggregation is denied based on the comparison.

Abstract: Using a first access node, a set of wireless devices are communicated with using a first frame configuration. The communication using the first frame configuration meets a first throughput threshold criteria for both a first and second subsets of the wireless devices A second frame configuration having a second ratio of uplink subframes to downlink subframes is selected. Based on the selection of the second frame configuration, a second access node is used concurrently with the first access node to communicate with the second subset of wireless devices using the second frame configuration.
