Abstract:
A wireless communication system is presented for robust mobility management in a HetNet communication system. A source cell can prepare a macro cell and a target small cell as handover candidates during handover decision making and/or preparation. The mobile device is informed about the prepared macro cell and target small cell using radio resource control (RRC) messaging. After receiving a handover command or detecting radio frequency (RF) loss, the mobile device can try to connect with the target small cell. If the mobile device is unable to connect to the target small cell, the UE can fall back and connect to the macro cell.
Abstract:
An electronic device uses one antenna to wirelessly communicate information with two different wireless networks via concurrent connections associated with different radio access technologies. More specifically, the electronic device may receive video via a first of the connections using a multicast communication protocol. In order to maintain the second connection, the electronic device may switch, for a time interval, from the first connection to the second connection during switching events. This switching can disrupt displayed content associated with the video. To prevent this disruption, in response to a trigger that warns of an upcoming switching event, the electronic device accesses a portion of the video in a buffer during the time interval associated with the switching event. When the communication circuit switches back to the first connection after the switching event, the electronic device reverts to the video communication using the multicast communication protocol.
Abstract:
Carrier aggregation using unlicensed frequency bands. A primary carrier for communication between a base station (BS) and a wireless user equipment (UE) device may be configured according to a first wireless communication technology. The primary carrier may be on a licensed frequency band. A secondary carrier for communication between the BS and the UE may also be configured according to a first wireless communication technology. The secondary carrier may be on an unlicensed frequency band. Channel conditions for each of multiple possible channels of the unlicensed frequency band may be assessed according to a second wireless communication technology as part of configuring the secondary carrier.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for enabling a cellular network to more efficiently announce special network capabilities to UE's in its coverage area. The special network capabilities may be specific to a first class of UE devices and/or may be outside of the relevant telecommunication standard used by the cellular network. The base station may transmit a dummy System Information Block-1 (SIB-1), wherein the dummy system information block is broadcast separately from regular system information block 1's (SIB-1's).
Abstract:
A method for determining whether an acknowledgement received by a user equipment from an external device is a forced acknowledgement. The method including transmitting a set of data stored in an uplink buffer to an external device, receiving an acknowledgement from the external device, determining if the acknowledgement received from the external device was a forced acknowledgement and flushing out an uplink buffer if determined that the acknowledgement was not a forced acknowledgement. The determining the acknowledgement is a forced acknowledgment being based on whether an uplink retransmission collides with one or more scheduled transmission times, a Physical Hybrid-ARQ Indicator Channel (PHICH) falls between gap measurements and an uplink retransmission collides with one of the gap measurements or a TTI bundling retransmission collides with a gap measurement. If the acknowledgement is not a forced acknowledgment, a set of data stored in the uplink buffer is retransmitted to the external device.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to Wi-Fi signaling in conjunction with cellular communication in unlicensed frequency bands for efficient co-existence. According to one embodiment, a cell may be established between a cellular base station and a wireless user equipment device on a frequency channel in an unlicensed frequency band. A cellular communication may be scheduled between the base station and the user equipment device. A Wi-Fi signal may be transmitted on the frequency channel in conjunction with the scheduled cellular communication. The Wi-Fi signal may indicate a length of the scheduled cellular communication using Wi-Fi signaling. The scheduled cellular communication may be performed via the cell.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to providing negative stopping criteria for turbo decoding for a wireless device. A device may wirelessly receive turbo coded data. Turbo decoding may be performed on the turbo coded data. Performing turbo decoding may use one or more negative stopping criteria for early termination of the turbo decoding for each code block of the turbo coded data. The negative stopping criteria may be selected to terminate the turbo decoding of a code block early under poor wireless medium conditions. Turbo decoding of a code block may be terminated early if the one or more negative stopping criteria for the code block are met.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to accommodating link budget constrained wireless devices performing random access procedures. A base station may detect a preamble message from a wireless device. It may be determined that the preamble message is received from a link budget constrained wireless device. Characteristics of a response message may be selected based at least in part on determining that the preamble message is received from a link budget constrained wireless device. The response message may be transmitted to the link budget constrained wireless device using the selected characteristics.
Abstract:
A user equipment (UE) and network entity implement improved communication methods which enable a UE to operate using differing modes of operation without detaching from a network. The UE may send first information indicating its capabilities to the network entity and may receive a first indication based on the first information. The first indication may indicate that the UE operate according to a first mode of operation. The UE may receive a second indication based on an occurrence of a first condition detectable at the network entity. The second indication may indicate that the UE operate according to a second mode of operation different from the first mode of operation. The first condition may be an initialization of a real time data packet session for the UE or may be a first message sent by the UE in response to one or more radio conditions exceeding a threshold.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for scheduling radio resource control connections between a wireless device and a network element of a network in advance. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may provide an indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic to the network element. The network element may schedule one or more radio resource control connections for the wireless device based at least in part on the indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic. The network element may provide an indication of the scheduled radio resource control connection(s) to the wireless device. The wireless device and the network may establish the scheduled radio resource control connection at the scheduled time.
