Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for the inhibition of gene expression. In particular, the present invention provides oligonucleotide-based therapeutics for the inhibition of oncogenes involved in cancers.
Abstract:
Disclosed are automated processes and systems for the assembly of composite doors, and doors made using such processes and systems. The automated process may comprise a continuous series of steps allowing individual doors to be made in tandem, rather than in batch. The process may allow for the automation of individual steps such that the need for coordinating separate assembly steps may be substantially reduced.
Abstract:
A MEMS apparatus having a substrate layer, a device layer and an intermediate oxide layer joining them. A slider is formed in the device layer and includes an enlarged end portion. A walled chamber having a hollow interior in which is positioned a microdetonator is formed in the substrate layer beneath the enlarged end portion and is secured to it by the oxide layer. A drive is operable to move the slider, and with it, the walled chamber, from an initial position to a final position. When in the final position an initiator is operable to initiate the microdetonator.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a fluid treatment system comprising: an inlet; an outlet; and a fluid treatment zone disposed between the inlet and the outlet. The fluid treatment zone has disposed therein: (i) an elongate first radiation source assembly having a first longitudinal axis, and (ii) an elongate second radiation source assembly having a second longitudinal axis. The first longitudinal axis and the second longitudinal axis are non-parallel to each other and to a direction of fluid flow through the fluid treatment zone. The present fluid treatment system has a number of advantages including: it can treat large volumes of fluid (e.g., wastewater, drinking water or the like); it requires a relatively small “footprint”; it results in a relatively lower coefficient of drag resulting in an improved hydraulic pressure loss/gradient over the length of the fluid treatment system; and it results in relatively lower (or no) forced oscillation of the radiation sources thereby obviating or mitigating of breakage of the radiation source and/or protective sleeve (if present). Other advantages are discussed in the specification.
Abstract:
A first preferred embodiment includes a flow cytometer with a fluidic system to draw a sample fluid into an interrogation zone, a light source to emit light toward the sample fluid in the interrogation zone, an optic system to collect and detect at least one of a scattered light and a fluorescent light from the interrogation zone, and a processor. The flow cytometer, if properly boxed and labeled, complies with the parcel post requirements of the United States Postal Service. A second preferred embodiment includes the method of supplying a flow cytometer by shipping the flow cytometer via the United States Postal Service. A third preferred embodiment includes the method of servicing a flow cytometer by receiving the flow cytometer from a user via the United States Postal Service and servicing the flow cytometer.
Abstract:
A system, method and program product for determining parallelism of an ion beam using a refraction method, are disclosed. One embodiment includes determining a first test position of the ion beam while not exposing the ion beam to an acceleration/deceleration electrical field, determining a second test position of the ion beam while exposing the ion beam to an acceleration/deceleration electrical field, and determining the parallelism of the ion beam based on the first test position and the second test position. The acceleration/deceleration electrical field acts to refract the ion beam between the two positions when the beam is not parallel, hence magnifying any non-parallelism. The amount of refraction, or lateral shift, can be used to determine the amount of non-parallelism of the ion beam. An ion implanter system and adjustments of the ion implanter system based on the parallelism determination are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A system for bi-directional power distribution line communication. The system is configured for data communication with an endpoint transceiver located at a customer premise. The system comprises a time server in electrical communication with the transceiver, the time server configured to retrieve the time. A substation controller is in electrical communication with a power distribution line. The substation controller includes a transceiver and a programmable circuit. The programmable circuit includes a substation clock. The programmable circuit is programmed to periodically retrieve the time from the time server to calibrate the substation clock to the retrieved time, and to control the transceiver to transmit the time to the endpoint transceiver.
Abstract:
In general, the invention is directed to a patient programmer for an implantable medical device. The patient programmer may include one or more of a variety of features that may enhance performance, support mobility and compactness, or promote patient convenience.
Abstract:
A digital signal line transmission system with reduced echo is provided. A communication line is between a carrier and a user terminal. A bridgetap line has a first end connected to the communication line. An adaptor having a capacitance is connected to the bridgetap line. The adaptor reduces the effect of echo from the bridgetap line on a rate of data transmission to the user terminal over the communication line.
