Abstract: Disclosed are dust suppressant and aggregate stabilization compositions. In accordance with the subject disclosure, hemicellulose is used as a dust suppressant and/or as a stabilization composition for aggregates such as a road bed or soil field. Other ingredients may be used in a composition in conjunction with hemicellulose. For instance, a lignin compound may be used to enhance dust suppression and/or aggregate stabilization. A surfactant may be used to decrease the viscosity of the composition. A crosslinking agent may be used to enhance the water resistance of the composition. A chloride salt may be added to increase the hygroscopicity of the composition.

Abstract: The present invention provides a starch that includes at least one glucose polymer having greater than 4% alpha 1-6 glycosidic linkages. The present invention further provides a starch hydrolyzate that includes at least one glucose oligomer having greater than 4% alpha 1-6 glycosidic linkages. The starch and starch hydrolyzate present invention have improved aqueous solution stability and are less likely to retrograde than are solutions of unbranched linear starches or starch hydrolyzates. The present invention further provides a method of improving the aqueous solution stability of a starch or a hydrolyzate thereof, which method includes introducing one or more alpha 1-6 glycosidic linkages so as to branch one or more of the linear polysaccharides or hydrolyzates thereof. The method of the present invention also includes a method of improving the aqueous solution stability of amylose and amylose hydrolyzates by introducing one or more alpha 1-6 glycosidic linkages so as to branch one or more molecules of amylose or hydrolyzate thereof.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing a mixture of malto-oligosaccharides. Generally, a dry-milled corn fraction, such as a corn flour from which germ and fiber have been removed, is subjected to hydrolysis, typically catalyzed with acid or an enzyme such as an α-amylase enzyme, under conditions suitable to form a mixture of malto-oligosaccharides. A gluten fraction is removed and the enzyme is inactivated, such as with heat. The mixture of malto-oligosaccharides then may be recovered from remaining solids and purified.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method for preparing an extruded product and an extruded product prepared thereby. The extruded product is deemed useful a food product, in particular, a snack food product suitable for consumption by diabetics. Cranberry seed meal is blended with one or more starches, preferably including a modified dent corn starch, and extruded through a die under conditions suitable to result in an expanded product while exhibiting a 10% survival rate of at least one anthocyanin. Optionally, flavoring components such as spices may be incorporated into the blend or added after extrusion. The resulting food product will be suitable for a use as a snack food product but will have a substantially higher percentage of fiber and protein as compared with extruded carbohydrate-based food products, and will have some surviving anthocyanins.
