Abstract:
A system includes a surface having a demarcated area and discrete areas disposed on the surface. The discrete areas may each be configured to receive user input. At least a portion of the discrete areas overlap the demarcated area. The system further includes a sensing layer disposed underneath the surface. The sensing layer may be configured to sense force applied to the surface in response to the user input.
Abstract:
An insole system includes a cushion layer configured to contact a human foot within an article of footwear and a sensing layer coupled to the cushion layer. The sensing layer may include a first sensing element and a second sensing element. The first sensing element and the second sensing element are one of: a force sensing element, a strain sensing element, or an environmental sensing element, wherein the first sensing element and the second sensing element are of a different type of sensing element. The insole system may also include a communications interface configured to couple the sensing layer with a host controller.
Abstract:
Certain implementations of the disclosed technology may include systems, methods, and apparatus for common mode signal cancellation in force change detectors. An example embodiment of the disclosed technology includes a press sensor element configured to reduce or eliminate thermally induced signals. The sensor element includes a piezoelectric layer that includes a first surface in communication with a first layer. The first layer includes a first conductive region. The piezoelectric layer includes a second surface in communication with a second layer. The second layer includes a second conductive region, a third conductive region, and a non-conductive void region separating the second conductive region and the third conductive region. The second and third conductive regions are configured to substantially reduce a thermally-induced voltage change between two or more of the first, second and third conductive regions responsive to a corresponding temperature change of at least a portion of the piezoelectric layer.
Abstract:
The cost and complexity of an electronic pressure sensitive transducer are decreased by constructing such a transducer directly on a printed circuit board containing support electronics. Conductive traces are formed on the printed circuit board to define a contact area. A flexible substrate having an inner surface is positioned over the contact area. An adhesive spacer, substantially surrounding the contact area, attaches the flexible substrate to the printed circuit board. At least one resistive layer is deposited on the flexible substrate inner surface. In use, the resistive layer contacts at least two conductive traces in response to pressure applied to the flexible substrate to produce an electrical signal indicative of applied pressure.
Abstract:
Home entertainment devices may be controlled and on-screen games played with a single controller. At least one gesture by a user is made on a touch pad. If the gesture was made for controlling the home entertainment device, at least one control signal is generated for the home entertainment device based on the gesture. If the gesture was made for playing a game, a game activity based on the gesture is performed and the results displayed on a display screen.
Abstract:
A hand-held remote computer input peripheral for communicating with a host computer having a display screen. An operator holds the input peripheral in space with a first hand. The input peripheral includes activation mode buttons each corresponding to a respective activation mode of the touch pad for controlling the display screen. The activation modes include a text entry mode for entering text on the display screen and a cursor control mode for controlling a cursor on the display screen. The input peripheral further includes a touch pad. The operator manipulates the touch pad using a second hand while holding the input peripheral with the first hand to perform functions associated with the activation modes for controlling the display screen. The text entry mode includes an annotation mode for enabling the operator to draw on to the display screen and a type mode for enabling the operator to print text on to the display screen. The operator draws on to the display screen in the annotation mode by moving a finger of the second hand across the touch pad. The operator prints text on to the display screen in the type mode by moving a finger of the second hand across the touch pad to handwrite the text and conversion software converts the handwritten text to printed text. The operator prints text on to the display screen in the type mode by moving a finger of the second hand across the touch pad to select letters of an on-screen keyboard displayed on the display screen.
