Abstract: An abrasive article having a plurality of apertures arranged in a non-uniform distribution pattern, wherein the pattern is spiral or phyllotactic, and in particular those patterns described by the Vogel equation. Also, provided is a back-up pad having a spiral or phyllotactic patterns of air flow paths, such as in the form of open channels. The back-up pad can be specifically adapted to correspond with an abrasive article having a non-uniform distribution pattern. Alternatively, the back-up pad can be used in conjunction with conventional perforated coated abrasives. The abrasive articles having a non-uniform distribution pattern of apertures and the back-up pads can be used together as an abrasive system.

Abstract: A safety device for use with a hand-held power tool. The safety device can include a tether assembly including a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end can attach to a hand-held power tool, such as on a handle of the hand-held power tool. The second end can engage an operator, and can include a stirrup to engage a foot of an operator. A reactive device can be disposed at or between the first and second ends, and can have one or more mechanisms to arrest upward movement of the tool in response to a kickback motion of the tool during operation.

The abrasive article may include forming a plurality of core segments; assembling the core segments into a core; and then mounting the core to the abrasive portion to form the abrasive article. Forming an abrasive article may include mixing a phenolic resin, fillers and abrasive particles to form an abrasive matrix; injecting the abrasive matrix directly into a mold, such that the abrasive matrix is injection molded into a final wheel geometry; at least partially curing the abrasive matrix while it is inside the mold; and then removing the abrasive article from the mold.
