    Abstract: A system for screening tissue on the presence of malignant cells in said tissue, which system comprises a wave detector and a data processing device connected or connectable to the wave detector for processing data received from the wave detector, which system comprises an actuator to excite the tissue which is suspected to comprise malignant cells, and the data processing device comprises an analyzer connected to the wave detector for analyzing the data received from the wave detector in response to the actuator exciting the tissue, which analyzer is arranged to identify the tissue with an elevated probability to comprise malignant cells in comparison with tissue that is not suspected to comprise malignant cells in an individual case. The inventors remark that the identification of high but symmetrical outcome results can be used in a population-based stratification of risk of developing malignant cells and can serve as a biomarker in risk-based screening approaches.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for performing scanning spectral tomographic reconstruction of an object. The imaging system includes a power source that is configured to provide an alternating high voltage. The imaging system includes an X-ray source. The X-ray source includes an array of X-ray emitters that allow fast switching “ON” and “OFF” using a grid electrode. The source is configured to generate an X-ray beam with an energy spectrum based on the alternating high voltage and uses X-ray filters. The imaging system includes a controller configured to operate synchronously with the alternating high voltage. The controller is also configured to drive an actuator to position the X-ray source with respect to an object and drive the source in a pre-defined trajectory about the object. At each position in the trajectory, the controller is configured to control the exposure timing of the emitters based on a predefined firing pattern.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an image sensor and to an imaging system comprising the same. The present invention particularly relates to X-ray image sensors and imaging systems. The image sensor according to the invention comprises a pixel array that includes a plurality of active pixels arranged in a matrix of rows and columns, and a plurality of column lines to which outputs of pixels in the same column are coupled for the purpose of outputting pixel signals. The image sensor further comprises readout circuitry that includes a plurality of readout units, each readout unit being configured for reading out a respective column line through an input node of the readout unit. The image sensor is characterized in that the image sensor further comprises capacitive units, such as capacitors, for capacitively coupling each input node to its corresponding column line.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a system for producing X-ray images from an object. According to this invention, a shift-and-add method is used for generating a stack of linear tomography planes each associated with a different area inside the object. A set of shift values is defined from the consideration of ensuring that said stack of linear tomography planes fills in the tomographic volume with a spatial density adequate to the application. If so required by the application, some focal planes can be selectively processed for sharpness reduction in some areas to control the depth-of-field. A focus stacking method is used to synthesize a single 2D X-ray image from UPI the tomographic stack of images. A depth map of in-focus areas from the linear tomography stack can be used for creating a 3D object model.

    Abstract: The present invention is related to an image sensor and to a method for operating such sensor. The sensor of the invention comprises a pair of butted sensor tiles, each sensor tile comprising a pixel array comprising a plurality of rows and columns of photosensitive pixels.By constructing first row groups using at least one imaginary row, a different center-to-center distance exists between the different row groups than that which is obtained in prior art devices. More in particular, the construction according to the present invention allows the center positions of the rows to lie on a regular grid thereby lowering the geometrical distortion of the resulting image.
