摘要: A method for communicating serial input data over a transmission link. Serial input data is partitioned into parallel data elements and is coded prior to rotation by an invertible linear mapping. Resulting frames of parallel sign elements are transmitted over the link. After receipt from the link, the signal is assembled into frames of parallel signal elements which are de-rotated by an inverse linear mapping, then decoded. Thresholding the result of the inverse mapping recovers the parallel data elements, which are then re-assembled into serial output data. The linear mapping employs: 1) commuting rotation matrices for convolutionally rotating data vectors into signal vectors and vice-versa; 2) filter bank polyphase rotation matrices; or 3) computationally efficient multi-rate wavelet filter banks. Coefficients of the rotation matrix of the receiver are adaptively equalized to correct for transmission path distortion.

摘要: A hand-held Variable Angle Membrane (VAM) ultrasonic scanning head consisting of transmitting and receiving transducers is used to excite guided waves to detect corrosion, MIC and foreign objects in containers such as pipes. The scanning head includes transducers mounted on a fluid filled housing sealed by a membrane. This system couples ultrasound from the transducer to the pipe wall. The transducer housings are mounted in a rigid frame that holds the ultrasonic transducer housings a specific distance apart and allows each transducer housing to rotate about a pivot point. The membrane deforms to the pipe diameter to be scanned. The scanning head is adjusted to perform inspections in various container diameters and thicknesses. Once adjusted for diameter and thickness, the operator places the scanning head on the pipe and couples the rubber membranes to the pipe with a small amount of couplant. Separate electronics excite the transmitting transducer, and then condition the signal from the receiving transducer for analysis.

摘要: An apparatus for removing heat from an electronic component. In one embodiment, a heat generating device is mounted to a top-side surface of a package substrate. A fluid flow channel that is defined at least partially by a portion of the back-side surface of the substrate is provided for passing a cooling medium. This configuration permits the cooling medium to be in direct contact with the back-side surface of the substrate, thus, reducing the overall thermal resistance between the heat generating device and cooling medium.

摘要: A method of oxygen delignification of medium consistency pulp slurry, which includes the steps of providing a pulp slurry of from approximately ten percent to sixteen percent consistency, at a temperature of from approximately 170-240.degree. F., preferably from 190 to 220.degree. F., thoroughly impregnating the slurry with oxygen gas, and with alkali to bring the slurry to a pH of at least 11, more preferably 12, introducing the slurry to oxygen gas in a high shear mixer, for agitating mixing therein, reacting the slurry in a first pressurized reactor for between 5 to 10 minutes, returning the pH of the slurry to at least 11, more preferably 12, with a residual alkali concentration of at least 1.25 gpl, thoroughly impregnating the slurry with H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and oxygen gas, and reacting the slurry in a second reactor for between 30 to 180 minutes. By only employing the hydrogen peroxide during the slower bleaching reaction, a lower Kappa number with higher % ISO is obtained in the product, these beneficial characteristics being retained in subsequent processing steps.

摘要: A fiber optic coupler is formed by inserting a plurality of optical fibers into the longitudinal bore of a glass tube so that at least a portion of each fiber extends from at least one end of the tube. The midregion of the tube is collapsed onto the fibers, uncollapsed bore portions remaining at the tube end regions. Each bore portion is connected to the tube end surface by a funnel that facilitates the fiber insertion step. The central portion of the midregion is stretched to reduce the diameter thereof. In a first embodiment, glue is applied to the funnel. Before the glue is cured, a sufficient period of time is allowed to elapse to permit said glue to flow by capillary action between the fibers and the adjacent portion of the wall of the bore portion. The glue flows at least 3 mm into the bore portion beyond the bottom of the funnel. The glue that flows by capillary action fails to completely surround the fibers with glue. The glue is then cured. In a second embodiment, a hollow filament is inserted into the uncollapsed bore portion and a vacuum is applied to the filament. Glue, which is applied to the funnel, is drawn into the uncollapsed bore portion due to the evacuated condition thereof, thus filling the uncollapsed bore portion to the desired level.

摘要: An apparatus for selectively transmitting input optical signals carried on input optical fibers to output optical fibers. A three refractive index tapered wave guide structure is bent and maintained in the bent state. This structure is, thereafter, rotated in the bent state. The coupling characteristics are tunable based on the degree of rotation.
