Abstract:
An ink tank and ink tank support structure which contains structural elements which are designed to permit proper installation of the ink tank in the ink tank support structure while minimizing the chances of improper installation of the ink tank in the ink tank structure. A primary ink tank seal is provided in the ink tank, and a relatively low compressive force seal is provided between the ink tank support structure and the ink tank to reduce leakage of fluid from the tank and limit evaporation of fluid from the tank despite repeated insertions and removals of the ink tank from the ink tank support structure. A variable capacity ink tank and an ink tank with staggered height walls are disclosed, as well as a code reader for determining characteristics of ink tanks.
Abstract:
The invention provides valS polypeptides and DNA (RNA) encoding valS polypeptides and methods for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques. Also provided are methods for utilizing valS polypeptides to screen for antibacterial compounds.
Abstract:
A calibration method and apparatus for economical and rapid calibration of a scientific instrument utilizing a monochromator to generate monochromatic light utilizing controllable means for determining the angular position of a light dispersing element in the monochromator and a filter having a narrow absorption band(s) to determine a relationship between the wavelength of the monochromatic light generated by the monochromator and an angular position of the dispersing element so that the dispersing element can be rotated to an exact position for the monochromator to generate a selected wavelength of monochromatic light.
Abstract:
Fuel for a rocket engine consisting of hydrogen, oxygen and a hydrocarbon is admitted into the combustion zone through an injector whereby the hydrogen and hydrocarbon components are either pre-mixed in the injector or independently delivered and the oxygen is always independently delivered into the combustion zone.
Abstract:
A biological indicator is made of a vial which contains a "spore dot", a nutrient solution in a frangible ampoule, and means for positioning the spore dot and for breaking the ampoule to release the nutrient solution when the cap of the vial is fully pressed on. The nutrient solution typically contains a pH indicator to determine whether all active spores on the strip were killed by a sterilization process which takes place prior to breaking the ampoule.
Abstract:
A steel plug is inserted into a modern shotgun to convert it into a muzzleloading firearm. The plug is made for use as a breech plug in a single barrel shotgun without modifications to gun. The plug enables the shotgun to be used as a muzzle-loader with black powder and allows conversion of the gun back to its original condition by simply removing the breech plug.
Abstract:
In a spectrophotometer including a photomultiplier tube and an operational amplifier responsive to the current from the photomultiplier tube for generating a DC voltage proportional to light intensity, a method and means for simultaneously compensating for the dark current of the photomultiplier tube and the offset of the operational amplifier so that the output voltage of the operational amplifier is zero volts under dark conditions.
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions suitable for use with an oral care implement. The compositions provide improved sensory appeal, and comparable reduction in volatile sulfur compounds and antibacterial activity to advanced formula toothpaste formulations. The compositions include a high percentage of antibacterial agent and flavoring, when compared to conventional toothpastes, and some mouth washes formulations, such that only minor amounts of the composition can be delivered to the oral care implement to provide improved reduction in volatile sulfur compounds, antibacterial efficacy, and optionally a cooling sensation.
