    摘要: A photographic element for processing in moderate to large volume photofinishing baths and comprising one and only one dimensionally stable coating support, and coated thereon in reactive association an imaging layer containing radiation sensitive silver halide, a diffusible-dye forming layer containing a diffusible-dye forming compound, and a barrier layer overlaying said diffusible-dye forming layer is disclosed. This coating support is selected from reflection base and transparent base materials, and this diffusible-dye forming layer may be the same or different than this imaging layer. This barrier layer contains a polymer that allows the passage of solutions for processing when this element is contacted with an external processing bath, and impedes the diffusion out of this element of the diffusible dye formed from this diffusible-dye forming compound.

    摘要: The invention is accomplished by providing an aqueous dispersion of a photographic coupler by precipitation from a solvent solution by solvent and/or pH shift. A second aqueous dispersion of an activating permanent solvent for the photographic coupler is also provided. The dispersion of activating permanent solvent and photographic coupler are combined to form a combined dispersion which is mixed with a gelatin dispersion of silver halide particles to form a photographic emulsion suitable for casting as a photographic element. In a preferred method of the invention, the activating solvent is incorporated into a dispersion of latex particles prior to being combined with the dispersion of photographic coupler.

The polymeric vehicle comprises recurring units derived from a hydroxyalkyl acrylate ester, and/or an N-hydroxyalkylacrylamide, and/or an N-alkylacrylamide. Image sharpness is thereby improved, especially under conditions of high temperature and humidity.

    摘要: The present invention is an imaged photographic element having a protective overcoat thereon. The protective overcoat formed by the steps of providing a photographic element having at least one silver halide light-sensitive emulsion layer; applying a coating comprising hydrophobic polymer particles having an average size of 0.01 to 1 microns, a melting temperature of from 55.degree. to 200.degree. C. at a weight percent of 30 to 95, and gelatin at a weight percent of 5 to 70 over the at least one silver halide light-sensitive emulsion layer. The silver halide light sensitive emulsion layer is developed to provide an imaged photographic element. The hydrophobic polymer particles are then fused to form a protective overcoat. In an alternate embodiment the coating further includes water soluble polymer materials at a weight percent of from 5 to 45.

    摘要: Dye imbibition printing blanks are disclosed comprising a support bearing a layer comprising a cationic mordant, a hydrophilic colloid and a plasticizer polymer, wherein the plasticizer polymer is a latex polymer having a glass transition temperature below about 30.degree. C. comprising from about 2 to 20 wt % of units having a quaternary ammonium group. In a preferred embodiment, the latex polymer comprises a vinyl co-polymer addition product of from about 50 to 98 weight percent of acrylic or methacrylic ester units, 0 to 48 weight percent of vinyl benzene units and 2 to 20 weight percent of the quaternary ammonium group containing unit. This latex provides a dye imbibition printing blank substantially free of haze and brittleness.

    摘要: Methods and compositions are provided for hardening with fast-acting hardeners the colloidal carrier materials, such as gelatin, in the layers of photographic materials, such as photographic film. The methods of the invention comprise coating, with a conventional coating technique, among the layers of a photographic material a layer of a composition of the invention. The compositions of the invention are aqueous solutions which comprise a fast-acting hardener and a polymeric thickener, have concentrations of thickener less than about 50 mg/cm.sup.3 and, at 40.degree. C. and shear rates between about 1000 sec.sup.-1 and 10,000 sec.sup.-1, have viscosities from about 5 cp to about 20 cp and power law indices greater than about 0.90.
