    Abstract: The underside of a base layer consisting of one or more sub-layers is overlaid with an adhesive layer that is chiefly composed of an .alpha.-olefin copolymer that is based on at least two .alpha.-olefins selected from among .alpha.-olefins having 2-12 carbon atoms and which has a crystallinity of up to 10%, and said adhesive layer will develop an initial tack of at least 20 g/25 mm when attached to the surface of a stainless steel plate at 23.degree. C. The thus produced surface protective film, when attached to various kinds of adherends, will not experience separation of the adhesive layer from the base layer while developing strong initial tack, will experience only small changes in adhesive strength (peel strength) with the lapse of time after attachment to the adherends, is sufficiently low in blocking force to provide ease in film handling during the rewinding operation and it yet can be manufactured at low cost.

    Abstract: A switching device suitable for use on vehicles as a window regulator switch or a sunroof regulator switch. The switching device comprises a solenoid unit including a yoke, a core and a coil, a first card attached to the core so as to be pressed against a contact for supplying current to the coil of the solenoid unit and to an external load such as a motor, to keep the contact closed while the core is attracted to the yoke, a second card disposed for movement in parallel to the direction of movement of the first card, a pivotally supported operating knob having an operating arm connected to the second card, and a returning mechanism for biasing the operating knob toward the neutral position to return the operating knob to the neutral position when released. When the operating knob is turned to a manual operating position the contact is closed temporarily and is opened when the operating knob is released. When the operating knob is turned to an automatic operating position, the second card is locked at an operating position to keep the contact closed even if the operating knob is released. The operating knob is returned to the neutral position by a returning mechanism when released.

    Abstract: A port is formed in a cylinder head of an engine. The port is opened and closed by a valve. A valve spring device is provided with a first spring and a second spring. The second spring is contained in a housing and held by a stopper in a manner such that it is compressed along an axis or subjected to a preload. The preload of the second spring is larger than an installation load of the first spring. An axial load acts on the springs. The valve spring device has load-deflection characteristics such that only the first spring deforms axially when the axial load is not larger than a predetermined value and that both the first and second springs deform axially when the axial is load exceeds the predetermined value.
