Abstract: An exhaust rocker assembly for operating an exhaust valve of an engine during a compression-release engine braking operation. The exhaust rocker assembly comprises an exhaust rocker arm and a self-contained compression brake control module (CBCM) mounted to the exhaust rocker arm and operatively coupled to the exhaust valve for controlling a lift and a phase angle thereof. The CBCM includes a casing, an actuation piston disposed outside the casing so as to define an actuation piston cavity, a reset check valve provided between the casing and the actuation piston, and a compression brake actuator disposed in the casing. The actuation piston reciprocates relative to the casing. The compression brake actuator includes a control piston. The control piston engages the check valve when deactivated so as to unlock the actuation piston cavity and disengages from the check valve when activated so as to lock the actuation piston cavity.

Abstract: A method of providing a rocker arm set for a valvetrain includes providing a first intake rocker arm, a second intake rocker arm and a first exhaust rocker arm. The first intake rocker arm is configured as a switching rocker arm for a first intake valve on a first cylinder. The second intake rocker arm is for a second intake valve on a second cylinder. The second rocker arm is configured to operate in a normal Otto cycle mode. The first exhaust rocker arm is provided for a first exhaust valve on the second cylinder. The first intake rocker arm operates in one of an LIVC or EIVC mode where the first intake rocker arm is configured to open or close at a different time compared to the second intake valve. The first exhaust rocker arm operates in a cylinder deactivation mode.

Abstract: A type II valve train assembly that selectively opens first and second intake valves and first and second exhaust valves is provided. The valve train assembly includes an intake rocker arm assembly and an exhaust rocker arm assembly. The valve train assembly is configurable for operation in any combination of activated and deactivated states of engine braking and cylinder deactivation. The exhaust rocker arm assembly includes a first exhaust rocker arm, a second exhaust rocker arm and an engine brake exhaust rocker arm. A first exhaust HLA is associated with the first exhaust rocker arm. A second exhaust HLA is associated with the second exhaust valve. An exhaust actuation assembly selectively actuates to alter travel of the first and second exhaust HLA's to change a state of cylinder deactivation between activated and deactivated.

The cam follower may include a mechanical adjustment device interacting with the cam shaft for axially adjusting the cam follower between the first position and the second position.
