A change in a magnetic resistance generated between a plurality of windows 23a of a cylindrical member 23 formed by a nonmagnetic material and an output shaft 2 formed by a magnetic material through a torsion of a torsion bar 22 is regarded to be a change in inductances of detecting coils 15p and 15q to detect a steering torque. Coil yokes 16P and 16Q accommodating the detecting coils therein are disposed coaxially on an outer periphery of the cylindrical member 23, and L-shaped bent tip portions of output terminals 15a1 and 15a2 of the detecting coils are inserted into a through hole 18 of a circuit board of a control module CM. The coil yokes 16P and 16Q can easily be attached to a gear box with a rotation and the tip of the output terminal can be arranged with high precision. Terminal holding portions 16P1 and 16Q1 are provided on an inside of a moving track (a circular arc S) so that an interference with other components can be prevented.Moreover, the circuit board of the control module CM is disposed perpendicularly to a direction of shaft centers of an input shaft and an output shaft. An output terminal 215a of a detecting coil 215 of a torque sensor has a tip portion bent to take an L shape and formed perpendicularly to the through hole 18 of the circuit board of the control module CM. Therefore, the detecting coil and the control module can be directly connected easily. When a gear box mounting the control module CM thereon is to be disposed in a small engine room, a space efficiency can be increased and a shock absorbing stroke of a shock absorbing mechanism can be maintained sufficiently. A round pin having a round section is used for the output terminal 215a of the detecting coil 215, and the tip portion is bent with high precision by utilizing a bending punch and a die.

Molded bodies of a hydrogen absorbing alloy accommodated in a hydrogen storage container are made readily replaceable to ensure stabilized supply of hydrogen gas. When exhibiting an impaired hydrogen absorbing-desorbing capacity, the molded bodies can be easily replaced by new molded bodies, whereby a specified hydrogen absorbing-desorbing capacity can be maintained. The hydrogen gas released from the storage container is partly utilized to heat the container and thereby maintain the alloy at a predetermined temperature, consequently assuring a device, such as a fuel cell, of stabilized supply of hydrogen from the container.

In a torque sensor, coils and resistors constitute a bridge circuit, and the mutual connection part of the coils is connected to a power source via a coil drive unit. A control voltage, which varies in the square wave form, is supplied to the gate of a transistor in the coil drive unit so as to vary the voltage supplied to the coils in the square wave form. The output voltages which are the voltages between the coils and the resistors are input to the differential amplifier and the output voltage of the differential amplifier is held by a sample holding circuit to be supplied to a controller as the output voltage. The sample holding circuit holds the output voltage of the differential amplifier when the output voltages between the coils and the resistors are in the transient period. The controller detects the torque based on the output voltage of the sample holding circuit. An abnormal state monitoring unit is provided to detect an abnormal state of the coils.
