    摘要: Head position control is implemented in a disk drive for the case in which a disk is assembled into the disk drive after a precise track is recorded onto it using an external apparatus, which is capable of high-speed access even if there is eccentricity between a track defined by servo information and the center of rotation of the track. Two phase servo bursts consisting of servo information are recorded onto each of the servo information regions of a disk surface, in mutual alternation, the strength ratio between signals detected from these two phase servo bursts being used to determine to which side the head is displaced. By performing control so that this strength ratio is a prescribed value at each angular position, control is achieved so that the head moves along a circular path of rotation, even if there is eccentricity in the servo circular path defined by the recorded servo information with respect to the center of rotation.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method of reproducing a synchronization signal in a disc storage system. The apparatus includes disc mechanism having a plurality of information storage discs in one of which a predetermined servo pattern is recorded, and a corresponding plurality of reproducing heads, one of the heads reading the servo pattern from the corresponding disc to thereby output a servo signal, a synchronization signal demodulating unit, responsive to the servo signal from the disc mechanism, for demodulating a synchronization signal in synchronization with a rotation of the discs, a synchronization clock generating unit for generating a clock signal with a predetermined frequency in synchronization with the synchronization signal, and a gate unit. For a predetermined period, the gate unit prohibits a supply of the synchronization signal from the synchronization signal demodulating unit to the synchronization clock generating unit. As a result, it is possible to prevent an erroneous detection of a synchronization signal due to a spike noise, an undesirable signal by a defect of a medium, or the like, and thus realize a precise reproducing of the synchronization signal.

    摘要: In a disk drive and a method for retrying to check data in the disk drive, a magnetic disk subsystem comprises a magnetic disk control unit and a drive module. The magnetic disk control unit is provided with a unit for controlling data check retry sequence which has a dummy write control unit. The drive module is provided with heads and a positioning unit. When the data read from the medium contain error, the above unit controls the data check retry sequence in order to read again the data using the same head. The dummy write control unit seeks a dummy write cylinder during the data check retry sequence, effects the dummy writing, seeks the original cylinder again, and reads the data again.

The first signal and the second signal indicate that the magnetic disk unit is busy adjusting the plurality of magnetic heads so that an off-track error of the second magnetic head is cancelled.

A timer starts when the head reaches a predetermined position which is out of a predetermined vicinity of the desired track, and when in the vicinity, the control is switched from the speed control to the position control. After a predetermined time has elapsed after the head reaches the predetermined position, the target speed is increased to push the head. Alternatively, after the predetermined time has elapsed after the head reaches the predetermined position, the control may be immediately switched from the speed control to the position control. In addition, in a return-to-zero operation, intervals between times the servo head passes over different tracks are monitored to detect a real speed of the head, and the target speed during the speed control is controlled according to the detected real speed.
