In one embodiment, a generator includes a rotor configured to rotate in cooperation with a stator to generate electrical power. A sensor, which is supported by the rotor, is configured to generate a trigger signal indicative of a position of the rotor. A communication interface is configured to receive the trigger signal from the sensor of the rotor and receive data indicative of an output of the generator. A controller supported by the rotor or configured to perform a phase analysis of the trigger signal and the output of the generator and calculate a power angle for the generator based on the phase analysis.
Abstract:
A set of generators are connected in parallel using an electrical bus. One of the generators includes selectively connected inputs including a first input associated with a generator and a second input associated with the bus. A controller is configured to receive a first electrical characteristic from the first input assigned to a first connection and a second electrical characteristic from the second input assigned to a second connection. The controller is configured to generate a switching signal to assign the first input to the second connection or assign the second input to the first connection in response to a difference between the first electrical characteristic and the second electrical characteristic exceeding a threshold.

A generator system may include redundant control. The generator system may include any combination of redundant controllers, redundant communication paths, or other redundant control. A generator system may include an electrical bus, a first generator controller, and the second generator controller. The first generator controller may control a first generator breaker for connecting a first generator to the electrical bus and configured to control an external breaker for selectively connecting the electrical bus to an external source. The second generator controller may control a second generator breaker for connecting a second generator to the common bus and configured to control the external breaker for selectively connecting the electrical bus to the external source.

A dual compressor turbocharger includes two compressors. One compressor supplies fuel pressure, and one compressor supplies air pressure. The dual compressor turbocharger includes a turbine driven by exhaust of an engine and a shaft coupled to the turbine. The first compressor is mounted on the shaft and includes a first inlet coupled to an air supply and a first outlet coupled to an air intake of the engine. The second compressor is mounted on the shaft and includes a second inlet coupled to a fuel supply and a second outlet coupled to a fuel supply rail of the engine.

Some embodiments relate to a controlled field alternator where the alternator is wired in a low wye configuration (coils wired in series or parallel). The first sensor measures the direct current flowing through the field within the alternator to detect an excitation level of a field within the alternator. As examples, the first sensor may measure field voltage, magnetic field intensity, magnetic flux density, current to the field of a rotating exciter, voltage to the field of a rotating exciter and the duty cycle of a pulse width modulated signal that controls an on-board rectifier for a permanent magnet exciter. Embodiments are also contemplated where the second sensor measures the RMS output voltage of the alternator to determine the output characteristic of the alternator.

An electrical power generator system may include two or more paralleled generators. At least one of the generators includes a first power source and a second power source. A disconnection of a first power source is identified at a generator controller of one of the generators. The generator controller may be configured to access or generate a power failure message indicative of the disconnection of the first power source. The generator controller may be configured to transmit the power failure message using the second power source because the second power source is switched to the generator controller in response to the disconnection of the first power source. The system may enter a communication failure handling mode based on the power failure message.

A generator system includes at least one generator, at least one generator controller, and a power bus. The power bus transmits power to a load circuit. Data communications are also transmitted by the power bus. In one example, multiple generator controllers exchange messages over the power bus. In another example, one or more generator controllers exchange messages with a central controller over the power bus. The messages may include a status for the generators, output values for the generators, or commands for the generators.
Abstract:
Some embodiments relate to a method of controlling speed of a variable speed generator. The method includes detecting a load of the variable speed generator and determining a target speed for the variable speed generator based on the load supplied by the variable speed generator. The method further includes using a controller to adjust the speed of the variable speed generator based on the target speed. The method may further include correcting the target speed by calculating a correction factor that corrects the target speed based on a voltage produced by the variable speed generator.
