    摘要: The invention provides a system which comprises a medical device that delivers a combination of therapies. These therapies include the administration of radiation, biologically active materials, cryotherapy, and thermotherapy. The present invention is also directed to a method of treating body lumen surfaces using the system of the invention. A system is provided for delivering a biologically active material to a surface of a body lumen being exposed to a radioactive source. In one aspect, the system comprises an implantable medical device which has two opposing ends, each having a surface, and a middle portion. The two opposing ends comprise a biologically active material and the middle portion of the medical device is substantially free of any biologically active material. In another aspect, the system delivers a genetic material to a surface of a body lumen which is exposed to a radioactive source. Another system is provided for treating a surface of a body lumen in which the system comprises an implantable medical device which comprises a biologically active material and a device for applying a therapy source to the parts of the body lumen surface that are in contact with the opposing ends of the medical device. The therapy source may be a cryotherapy source or a thermotherapy source.

    摘要: The invention features an assembly for taking a biopsy sample from a site within the body of a patient. The assembly includes a resecting device having a cutter near its distal end for resecting and containing a tissue sample and a sheath exterior to the resecting device and sized to be present within the body with the resecting device. The sheath includes an electrode element electrically isolated from the resecting device and disposed on the sheath's outer surface for cauterizing tissue. The electrode element may reside on the outer sheath, the distal end or both the outer sheath and the distal end of the assembly. The resecting device and the sheath cooperate to permit sequential resecting of a tissue sample from a resecting site and cauterizing of the site with the cutter sufficiently spaced from the electrode element to avoid heat damage to the tissue sample.

    摘要: Guidewire-deliverable devices and methods of using the devices for separating adjacent layers of tissue and for delivering a surgical prosthesis to an operating site. A guidewire-deliverable cannula provides an elongate window for accessing the operating site with a tissue-separating device. The tissue-separating device may include one of several types of an inflatable balloon or a tissue-dissecting member. The tissue-separating balloon may simultaneously deliver the prosthesis during tissue separation and may further be detached to remain with the prosthesis over the operating site. Alternatively, the prosthesis may be separately provided after the adjacent layers of tissue have been separated.

    摘要: A drainage stent delivery system including an elongate shaft of a medical device, a drainage catheter or stent, and an engagement member, such as a distensible member or a compressible member, for selectively coupling the stent to the elongate shaft. The engagement member is positioned between the inner surface of the stent and the outer surface of the elongate shaft and is elongatable from a first length to a second length by longitudinal movement generally parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the stent to release the stent. At the first length, the engagement member is engaged with the inner surface of the stent to secure the stent on the elongate shaft, and at the second length the engagement member is sufficiently disengaged from the inner surface of the stent to release the stent from the elongate shaft such that the elongate shaft may be withdrawn from the stent.

    摘要: A catheter assembly and method for internally anchoring a catheter in a patient. According to one embodiment, the catheter assembly includes a catheter, a tubular fitting coupled to one end of the catheter, and an internal bolster coaxially mounted around the tubular fitting. The tubular fitting has a waist portion, and the internal bolster is secured thereto by a snap-fit. To internally anchor the catheter in a patient, one inserts the end of the catheter to which the fitting is coupled into the patient and then, while the fitting and its coupled end of the catheter are within the patient, inserts the internal bolster over the fitting until it snap-fits into place over the waist portion, thereby internally anchoring the catheter within the patient.

    摘要: A therapeutic delivery device is provided wherein a delivery body is supported by an elongate member such that the body may rotate as it delivers therapeutic to a target site. Therapeutic may be delivered by deploying delivery heads into a target site as well as by dispensing therapeutic from the delivery head. The delivery body may be cylindrically shaped, spherically shaped or shaped in various other configurations. In one embodiment the delivery body contains tracks that may roll back and forth over a target site to dispense therapeutic. In another embodiment, the delivery heads of the delivery body have internal valves that open and close in order to dispense therapeutic.
