    摘要: A modular base for a position sensitive Photo-Multiplier Tube (PS-PMT) that can be connected to other similar modular bases to form arrays of PS-PMTs. X and Y resistor chains are provided within the base to connect all X and Y coordinate anodes from the PS-PMT, respectively. An amplifier is provided at each end of each resistor chain to amplify output signals when the base is used alone; not connected to other bases. Jumpers associated with each amplifier are provided to include the amplifier in the output signal path or bypass the amplifier and connect to jumpers of other bases. When a base is used alone, the jumpers, which provide either an X or Y output signal, are set to include the amplifier in the output signal path. When two bases are connected together, the jumpers are set to bypass their associated amplifiers and connect the respective X or Y resistor chains of the two bases. The present method advantageously maintains the number of required amplifiers for each X or Y coordinate at two, no matter how many bases are used in the a row or column.

    摘要: One aspect of the present invention relates to screening patients for an early stage of coronary artery disease. According to this method, a patient is screened based on the time-activity curve for a radioactive tracer passing through a left ventricle region of the patient's body. According to another aspect of the invention, an array of gamma particle detectors is employed to obtain data for a region of interest that is larger than and encompasses a left ventricle region of the patient's body. An analysis of the data identifies the subset of the region of interest that corresponds to the left ventricle region. According to a further aspect of the present invention, a second technique is employed to locate the left ventricle region. A still further aspect of the present invention relates to obtaining images of a patient's heart using a high temporal resolution gamma camera.

    摘要: A system for improving the resolution of nuclear medicine gamma cameras. A pixellated crystal scintillator is optically connected to position sensitive photomultiplier tubes. Photons incident on the crystal scintillator travel a distance through the crystal that is directly proportional to the energy level of the photon before converting to photoelectrons. The system uses this depth of interaction information to classify the received photons according to their energy levels. Images may then be displayed using information from only those photons that are within the selected energy class.

    摘要: An improved multi-channel electron multiplier is provided that exhibits zero cross-talk and high rate operation. Resistive material input and output masks are employed to control divergence of electrons. Electron multiplication takes place in closed channels. Several embodiments are provided for these channels including a continuous resistive emissive multiplier and a discrete resistive multiplier with discrete dynode chains interspaced with resistive layers-masks. Both basic embodiments provide high gain multiplication of electrons without accumulating surface charges while containing electrons to their proper channels to eliminate cross-talk. The invention can be for example applied to improve the performance of ion mass spectrometers, positron emission tomography devices, in DNA sequencing and other beta radiography applications and in many applications in particle physics.

A method of temperature stabilization for photomultiplier based detectors is disclosed.

    摘要: An improved method for enhancing the contrast between background and lesion areas of a breast undergoing dual-head scintimammographic examination comprising: 1) acquiring a pair of digital images from a pair of small FOV or mini gamma cameras compressing the breast under examination from opposing sides; 2) inverting one of the pair of images to align or co-register with the other of the images to obtain co-registered pixel values; 3) normalizing the pair of images pixel-by-pixel by dividing pixel values from each of the two acquired images and the co-registered image by the average count per pixel in the entire breast area of the corresponding detector; and 4) multiplying the number of counts in each pixel by the value obtained in step 3 to produce a normalization enhanced two dimensional contrast map. This enhanced (increased contrast) contrast map enhances the visibility of minor local increases (uptakes) of activity over the background and therefore improves lesion detection sensitivity, especially of small lesions.
