摘要: Devices and methods of retaining an item are provided. An article carrier (10, 110) is provided, the article carrier comprising a flexible cable (20, 120) formed into a loop (28, 128) for holding the item, a clip (30, 130) coupled to the cable (20, 120) to couple the item to another object, and a cable retainer (60, 160) engaging the cable (20, 120) to adjust the size of the loop (28, 128) to secure the item within the loop (28, 128). The methods illustratively involve placing a portion of the item in the loop (28, 128), moving the cable retainer (60, 160) to tighten the loop (28, 128) around the portion of the item, and coupling the clip (30, 130) to the object. In an illustrated embodiment, the item is a beverage container, the portion of the item is the neck of the beverage container, and the object is a belt or belt loop worn by a person wishing to retain the beverage container.

摘要: A method (200) and apparatus (100) for allocating entries in a branch target buffer (BTB) (144) in a pipelined data processing system includes: sequentially fetching instructions; determining that one of the instructions is a branch instruction (210, 215, 220); decoding the branch instruction to determine a branch target address; determining if the branch target address can be obtained without causing a stall condition in the pipelined data processing system; and selectively allocating an entry of the BTB (144) based on the determination. In one embodiment, an entry of the BTB (144) is allocated if the branch instruction is not loaded into a predetermined slot (S1) of a prefetch buffer (102) and no other stall condition will occur. The method (200) and apparatus (100) combine the advantages of using a BTB (144) and branch lookahead to reduce stall conditions in the data processing system.

摘要: Configurable levels of source control for the configuration of a process automation system are enabled through a preference selection or license. A user that starts with a certain level of source control may later change the level. Manually entered version information is overwritten if the user starts with a basic source control system after using a manual source control system. In the basic source control system, the increment of the version number is based on the significance of the change, where a parameter change in an existing function block is minor. When the user upgrades to full source control, the existing version numbers are maintained and the automated increment is based on the significance of the change determined by the user.

摘要: An isolation system is provided that is suitable for use in telephony, medical instrumentation, industrial process control and other applications. Preferred embodiments of the invention comprise a capacitive isolation barrier across which a digital signal is communicated. The system provides a means of communication across the isolation barrier that is highly immune to amplitude and phase noise interference. Clock recovery circuitry may be employed on one side of the isolation barrier to extract timing information from the digital signal communicated across the barrier, and to filter the effects of phase noise introduced at the barrier. Delta-sigma converters may be disposed on both sides of the isolation barrier to convert signals between analog and digital domains. An isolated power supply may also be provided on the isolated side of the barrier, whereby direct current is generated in response to the digital data received across the isolation barrier. A bidirectional isolation system is provided whereby bidirectional communication of digital signals is accomplished using a single pair of isolation capacitors. In preferred embodiments, the digital data communicated across the barrier consists of digital delta-sigma data signals multiplexed in time with other digital control, signaling and framing information. Finally, the isolation system may include a pulse transformer to accommodate ADSL circuitry, whereby power is transmitted through the pulse transformer.

摘要: A user-defined development life cycle component is part of a qualification and version control system that is an integral part of a configuration toolset in a process automation system. The user enables and defines a development life cycle to be used by defining qualification states and their attributes, including the authorized state transitions and security and requirements for each transition, such as electronic signatures. Attributes define how each control object is treated in the system. For example, a “load to controller” flag defines if the control object is loadable to a controller when it is in a particular qualification state. A fallback state defines a qualification state in which the control object continues its life cycle when it is modified and checked-back-into the system. Through a restricted state definition, the user implements the “four-eye principle” so that two consecutive state changes are made by two different users.

摘要: A digital direct access arrangement (DAA) circuitry may be used to terminate the telephone connections at the user's end that provides a communication path for signals to and from the phone lines. Briefly described, the DAA provides a programmable means for the DC termination for a variety of international phone standards. The invention may also be utilized with means for transmitting and receiving a signal across a capacitive isolation barrier. More particularly, a DC holding circuit is provided in which a programmable DC current limiting mode is available. In the current limiting mode, power may be dissipated in devices external to a DAA integrated circuit. Moreover, much of the power may be dissipated in external passive devices, such as resistors.
